Will this drive run in a MacBook? I really need more internal space and I already have a 100 Gb drive, so 120 won't do any good.

Yes, if you get the SATA version; the ATA100 version will not fit.

The only place where I've seen 160GB SATA laptop drives for sale is OWC here's a link to a page with two 160GB HDs listed which will fit in Macbooks.. Apple MacBook Memory and hard drive upgrades; MacBook Pro Memory and hard drive upgrades at OtherWorldComputing.com

I just installed this drive over the weekend.

HITACHI Travelstar 5K160 160GB 2.5" Serial ATA150 Notebook Hard Drive - OEM at Newegg.com

Works great so far. I've now got over 96 gigs of free space. I only had about 3 gigs free before the upgrade.

The one you listed is only 4200rpm. I would go for a faster 5400. If you can find a 7200rpm drive it will be even faster. The faster the rpm the less battery life you may get though.

Go with the Hitachi drive listed by b11051973 in the thread above, it is far better.

what are the advantages of the hitachi drives? Seagate has a longer warranty (5 years vs. 3 years for everyone else) and this very thorough review, lists 5400rpm seagates being superior to 7200rpm hitachis?

http://techreport.com/reviews/2006q1.../index.x?pg=15

it is a very thorough article, but the link is to the conclusion, in case you don't want to read through the first 14 (yes, fourteen) pages of the article.

i would think seagates are a better choice.
