I can't seem to find a recommended software program to convert my DVDs for my iPod Touch for Macs. (The well reviewed ones seem to be only for Windows.) Any ideas? I just ant to be able to watch my own movies on my iPod...thanks...

Handbrake will rip the DVD to MPEG4. iSquint will convert existing rips (in all kinds of movie formats) into something your iPod can play. Best of all, they're both free.

Handbrake after MTR ripping to your hard drive is a great way to get a decent file for use in iTunes. But Handbrake does not (currently) re-encode from one of its mpeg4 formats - so, if you are like me and encoded everything at high quality the first time I ripped my video library, I now have to re-encode everything for my iPhone/video iPods. One option is to re-rip and re-encode from my original DVD library. As none of the options (below) are all that fast, this is something I am considering,

VideoHub is the 'pro' version of iSquint.

Elgato's Turbo H.264 is another option.

iTunes also has a converter function like iSquint, is faster IMHO - but makes larger files.

I find iSquint to be tortuously slow converting a handbrake-encoded file for something usable on an iPod. It is not dual processor aware; so if you have nearly any Intel Mac, it's not as quick as it could be. The more expensive VisualHub is, however, and seems to do the same job faster as a result.

I've tried them all in the past month - and I get compressed files usable on my iPhone that vary quite a bit in file size. I am going to directly compare a few in terms of quality to see what I can tolerate in terms of artifacts.

If I were to do this all over again with a fresh start, I'd use MTR/Handbrake and encode the highest quality files that can be played on an iPhone. They might be relatively big (>1GB per DVD), but they would look pretty good on the big screen, too. Otherwise, you need to do two encodings - which would be simpler if you started at the beginning.

****yousoft?

What's ****yousoft?

My bet's 20:1 this guy and greenappleage are the same spammers who show up every week to hawk their Windows crap - and "well reviewed"?

There hasn't been ONE SINGLE favorable review of their **** on this forum - only the regular copy-and-paste advertising diatribes.

Right right?

The true test is if this dude returns to reply to this thread. If he doesn't, he's a spammer.

My money is that we never see him again.

Handbrake is by far the best option.... also available is HandbrakeLite: a ripper with the sole purpose of DVD-to-iPod conversion. Simple and efficient.
