Which works so rarely that it's understandable that no one ever uses it.

Anyway, to port Safari, Apple would have to:

1. Port WebKit to Windows.

2. Either completely rewrite Safari or port Cocoa to Windows.

For those two reasons, I'd say there's about a 0% change of it happening. Safari wouldn't even be as nice on Windows, because you wouldn't have things like the spell-check service (unless Apple ported that too). Just go with one of the KHTML browsers for Windows (there must be at least one available).

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

iTunes doesn't use WebKit.
Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

The iTMS uses a custom XML format, rather than HTML - and therefore doesn't use WebKit.
You can read the technical details of the iTMS here if your so inclined.

iTunes for Windows was a brilliant way to simultaneously make the iTMS available to the unwashed masses (Windows users) and make the iPod very attractive to that same group.

Safari, on the other hand, would just be another 3rd-rate browser behind IE, Netscape, Mozilla, etc, etc. I can't see any incentive or benefit - I would still use IE on the PC as would the vast majority of Windows users.

If that's true... how did Mr. Blur find it?

Oh... is it because it does work?

The odds that Apple will port Safari to Windows are slim to none, and frankly Slim has left the building. And sadly, there are no known KHTML-based browsers for Windows.

However, just because Apple wouldn't do it doesn't mean that it cannot be done. That's part of the beauty of Open-Source; WebCore (not WebKit, but that's just a Cocoa wrapper around WebCore anyway) can be taken and ported. Indeed, there is an effort to do exactly this already underway, though the project is currently stalled. If any enterprising developer were to be interested, though, you could very well get a KHTML-based browser on Windows.

Half the time I try using the thing, I get some Fatal Error or another.

Actually that's just a port of KHTML. WebCore has extra gubbins to integrate with Cocoa, which is not going to be portable (except I guess possibly with GNUstep).

You're thinking of WebKit. WebCore is the lower-level layer, and that is where KHTML lives. WebKit is based on top of that.

No, I'm thinking of WebCore. Trust me, I've actually looked at the source.
