Reports are coming in that the 2G shuffle comes packaged with the old earphones. Can you confirm?

Nice, thanks for the personal attack.

I'm afraid if I took off the beard, I'd be facing divorce, so I think I'll just keep it.

Have to confirm when I get home after work. The Shuffle is destined for one of my family members, so I think I'd be in the dog house if I opened it before then.

I think he was trying to b3e funny, although how funny it was is a matter of opinion.

I'm quite sure he was trying to be funny. I just don't really see the point in a forum that's supposed to be about the iPod, not the state of one's facial hair.

I guess some people just feel an overwhelming urge to show off their amateur Photoshop skills.

At any rate, I can now confirm what everyone else is saying. The Shuffle has the old style headphones, which is kind of a bummer. It's also exactly the same width and depth and the 2G Nano, which I kind of figured.

I just got my shuffle today as well, but whenever I plug the dock cable into my MacBook I get a warning about the port being Over Current and that it will be disabled. Anyone else seen this or know how to get around it?

That is weird. Is it a cheap cable? It seems like a more likely problem would be being under current, not over. You moight try a different cable, if at all possible.

Well, I guess my point is that I don't think any actual malice (attack) was meant. I have noticed that some people just like to photoshop. At worst, I think he was derailing the thread. But what can
I say? that is a forum for you.

It is the cable that came with the Shuffle. And I can't use another cable because the Shuffle uses the headphone jack as the USB connector as well.

I'm apparently a bit behind the curve here-what sort of headphones were people expecting to get with the new Shuffle?

In the speech where these products were announced, it was mentioned that the signiature earbuds were redesigned. I was under the impression that all models would get it, and right away. Perhaps I missed some details.

If you watch the Keynote again, Steve does mention the new earbuds BUT only when talking about the iPod and the nano. He does not mention them when he talks about the shuffle.

The slides Steve used mentioned the new earbuds for the iPod and nano, BUT not for the shuffle.

The photos on the Apple website for the shuffle show the old earbuds, not the new ones.

Seems very clear cut to me, they have NEVER promised to give the new earbuds with the shuffle.

In the other thread about the Shuffle's headphones, (with pictures) I was straightened out on this. It sounded like people were expecting some sort of super-duper special 'phones, and not at all like the "new earbuds" were what they were looking for. Thanks for the clarification-and the polite nature of it!

No, but it does seem a little odd that they would not standardize the type of earphones they use across their product line.

I would guess they're getting rid of older stock and will upgrade the shuffle headphones quietly. Keeping stock of 2 seperate items that probably cost no more to produce would be inane.

My daughter received her new Shuffle yesterday — a birthday gift — only to discover that Apple (well, the manufacturer) had goofed on the engraving. Instead of her name, it read, "Wyatt's Shuffle. Hands off!" After much time on the phone with Apple Customer Support, I managed to get things straightened out. But it will mean another lengthy wait for a replacement. Apple did agree to cover the cost of expediting the shipping on the replacement (they offered to credit me $25 if I wanted to keep the Shuffle as is). Not a big deal, but a pretty big disappointment for a young girl who'd waited almost a month for delivery the first time. One last thing, Wyatt, if you're looking for your engraved new Shuffle, Apple now has their hands on it.

That's quite a goof for Apple to make. It wasn't the engraving that got messed up, but the whole order process. The order is linked to the purchaser, their address and the engraving they want. I would think they'd do EVERYTHING free for you because this problem indicates that their whole order/ship process is hosed, and they probably don't want people to think that.

Sorry, trevj's daughter!

Thanks ghporter. I'll pass along your condolences. I didn't mention in my previous post that when I called Apple Customer Support after discovering the error, the rep checked the serial number and it turned out to be the correct serial number (I guess they attach a specific serial number to each order). Somehow they really messed up the order. I might have been able to push for a more generous compensation, maybe like moving my MBP order to the front of the queue. :-)
The good news is that I just received an email notifying me that the replacement Shuffle has already shipped, less than 15 hours after I called to report the error. So, I should have a happy daughter again in just a few days. And happy daughters make for happy parents.

Apple store in Manhatten had them today at 3 pm- selling like hotcakes-
all the employees had at least one attached to their ID badges- the two employees I talked to- hadn't listened to them yet-
they didn't have a display for them- had to ask an employee to hook up a pair of headphones to it to demo- sounded good driving a pair of Bose noise canceling headphones- and I bought one.
One thing- the ear buds are now bigger than the unit- takes some getting used to.

Mine arrived yesterday but wouldn't play even after being charged til the indicator turned green, and then it'd just blink red (charge critical) when trying. I was afraid it was broken, but I left it plugged in overnight to an AC/USB brick from a past iPod (I have a Firewire one too). It worked fine in the morning and it's been fine all day.

The engraving is correct -- I was half-expecting to get one with the wrong engraving on it as mentioned above, so it was a relief. It's nice to know that Apple fixes problems fast, though.

The clip is nicely tight -- I clipped it to a pocket flap on a denim shirt just like the photo on the Apple website. Not many people have noticed it as I'm using a blue patch cable that connects right to my hearing aid. It's also nicely loud. I think it's louder than my misplaced (hence the replacement) 512MB 1st-gen shuffle.

Wife and I were at the Galleria (Houston) tonight and I said "I should go by and see if they've got the new Shuffles in stock".

They had a big easel sign up front with a picture of one on a denim jacket, and I came home with a 1G (they had plenty, but had them in a drawer behind the registers) and a new InCase sleeve for my MacBook.
