The dumbest thing I ever did was apply a OS 10.1 theme to OS 10.2 despite being warned not to. It caused the Finder to crash/launch over and over. I freaked & did a nuke & pave from space, though I doubt that it was really necessary.
Another time, in 10.2, my Applications folder suddenly had 0 items in it, but a quick boot from a backup, and DiskWarrior fixed it up in 10 minutes. Since 10.3 when they added journaling, nothing like that at all. Pretty smooth sailing since then, except for .mac syncing and the MobileMe debaucle.
It takes effort to actually wipe a drive. Hard to do by accident.

It does really, since it's 'supposed' to be about OS X.
I'll let it roll for a while.

I misinterpreted your reply, calverson, and I wrote that right after I lost an online game - hence the foul mood. I actually mistook you for the OP, as you can probably tell. I apologize and withdraw my comment.

Online gaming is obviously the scourge of our youth.

Don't you mean OS X?
If this is a real problem, do you might expanding on what you did to cause OSX (or Vista?) to whump your hard drive?

Terrible thread. Misleading title. If the title had been 'Vista completely wiped my systep - Worst OS ever?' no one would have clicked because that's common knowledge
