I think that my little ter was online during a thunderstorm. Now, not only is the internal modem donefore, but the USB ports (keyboard, etc.) seem distress as well. Anyone tips for this situ?

It sounds like the storm damaged your system. You should get it serviced by an authorized repair center.

I have my iMac plugged in to a UPS (uninterruptible power source) that protects it from numerous types of power disturbances such as blackouts, brownouts, spikes and surges.

Even with these devices protecting my
computer, when a thunderstorm hits I still unplug the power and phone lines.

Once your system is fixed, it might be a good idea to look into power protection for your computer. Companies such as APC, Belkin & Tripp-Lite provide the hardware you'll need to prevent this damage from happening again.
