As I'm writing this, I'm trying to open a PDF file that I had emailed to myself to look at in one of my university's library computer labs. I'm on a 1.6 GHz PowerMac G5 running 10.3.8. My own computer is a 466 MHz PowerMac G4 running 10.3.9. Any PDF that I've emailed to myself refuses to open on the G5, regardless of whether I try to open it in Acrobat or Preview. Acrobat reports that "the file is damaged and could not be repaired," and Preview reports that it "may be corrupt or a file format that Preview doesn't recognize." These are PDFs that I've downloaded from ProQuest and other online databases, and all of them open fine in Preview on my G4. I've had similar problems opening them on Windows machines.

What's going on?

MS Word files that I send out work just fine, though.

Try zipping a few PDFs into an archive.
