Seriously... is it just me, or do people jump the gun and blame shapeshifter for
a lot of the problems they have on their system?

Halo not loading... not waking up from sleep... video cards malfunctioning...

and the majority of the time, it's either user error or just lack of updating.

Before I go and scream bloody murder against an app, I do all possible
testing... including uninstall/reinstalls, check drivers/updates, make sure
privs are repaired, everything and anything I can do... then if I have to
I'll post a question regarding the issue.

Just my thoughts on things... no big deal.

True... but due to the way SS works it can potentially be a very dangerous ( or better bug inducing ) app, it is only thanks to Unsanity's hard work, experience and very thorough testing that it is not. I was very hesitant to install SS on my mac, but now I can honestly say that I haven't had any stability problems with the app itself or with other apps, I still haven't had a single kernel panic and everything that worked before ( even third party hacks ) still works...

Well when everything worked before you installed ShapeShifter, and certain things don't work after you install ShapeShifter, and when you check the crashlogs the ShapeShifter APE is EVERYWHERE - it might just be a clue.

Actually, the ShapeShifter APE is always in a crash log, regardless of whether or not it was the culprit. This often misleads people into thinking ShapeShifter is the cause of the problem, when in fact it's just a symptom of the fact that APE, by definition, inserts itself into each application you launch -- go into Activity Monitor sometime and sample an application while you have an APE module running; you'll find things like ape_agent in every running app, working or otherwise. If you want to find out if ShapeShifter is truly the problem, put the problematic app in its Exclude List and see if that fixes it.

I think that SS solves more problems than it makes... This is from a recent email I received:

Are you having problems getting it up? Feeling emberassed by your small size? If so, we have the solution! Now, for a limited time, you can buy your own ShapeShifter from the masterminds at Unsanity for only 19.95! This includes the original ShapeShifter with a Latium additive, derived from Milk. AND when you email back within 10 minutes, we will add in a dose of JetBlack, the most advanced vitamin for male erectile disfunction! But thats not all!!! Soon, our patent pending formula will be updated and will include OmegaBBX! There is no substitute for pure enjoyment... try ShapeShifter today!

... weird ...

My girlfriend left me, I crashed my car, my dog got hit by a car, and I developed a horrible drinking problem. ****ing ShapeShifter.

(To be somewhat fair, I have noticed that maybe half, maybe a bit less, of the problems people think could be SS are, but not usually unsolvable).

Never said Shapeshifter was the 'perfect app'

But what I'm trying to get at, is that when someone wants to believe that
an app is to blame, they lose sight of the real problem.

As I said before, doing what you're supposed to do, by troubleshooting
properly, instead of placing false blame where it doesn't belong, you
can avoid these ridiculous threads that piss and moan about how
shapeshifter destroyed your system... only to come back at the end
with the real culprit.

I have a suggestion for you: read properly!!
I never moaned about Shapeshifter destroying my system! I just asked a question if it could have been Shapeshifter's fault! THAT'S A REALLY HUGE DIFFERENCE!!

I WAS troubleshooting properly - at least the way I consider proper troubleshooting...
What's so bad about asking others if they have the same problem when I suspect an app to be the cause of my problem? I just wanted to find out if I was right - and I was wrong! That was all I wanted to know! I know that I could have done this on my own but I didn't want to....I like it when other help me!

If you don't like those threads, then ignore them!!!!!!!!!

Wow, some people get all pissy when they're wrong.

Listen up, in case you didn't notice, I said this was my thought... I stated examples of
people posting problems that were not related to Shapeshifter, yet seemed pretty
determined that it was the root of their issues... only to discover (after PROPER troubleshooting) that such was not the case.

As for 'not liking those threads', whoever said I don't like them?
I just think that instantaneously blaming one app for your problems without first
examining all possibilities is poor.

Keep posting your problems, blame SS, then discover it's totally unrelated... doesn't
reduce the amount of sleep I get at night. But out of courtesy, I would expect
people to try all avenues of repair before smacking a big blame sticker on another
app... merely because it alters the way your system looks.

But then again... who am I kidding? People posting their opinions is an instant
bitch/flamefest, and GOD FORBID anyone have any courtesy these days, or
freedom to say what's on their mind. Go back to your regularly scheduled complaining.

Hmm... dammit, my firewire drive isn't loading... must be that damn shapeshifter again...

if one is using shapeshifter and something that has not happened before but has happened only after one has started using shapeshifter is a legit concern and part of troubleshooting. this is one place to ask advice don't you think?

There's a difference between asking for info, and blaming outright.

I can understand windows messing up apps, certain aspects of the UI being
deformed or unusable due to SS... but textures in a game? Drives not loading?
Video cards not recognising? C'mon... there's got to be some basis in reality.

I'm just saying that people should perhaps think before they really blame
SS for their woes. I'm not saying they can't post about it, I'm not an opinion
nazi... like a large majority of people here seem to be. But there's better ways
to find a solution than to blast SS for ruining their system, then find out 5 posts later
that they didn't upgrade or read the manual.

But that's my opinion yet again, so sue me.
