Like I could name just five...

Rush.
AC/DC.
Rainbow.
Sisters of Mercy.
Scorpions.
Michael Schenker Group.
Kamelot.
Dio.
Heart.
Dokken.
Dire Straits.
Accept.
Been inclined to wander... off the beaten track.

I don't think I can qualify that, as I listen to so much, so I'll just list 5, based on the number of mp3s I have for each band.

Honorable Mention:
Cake (32 songs)
Green Day (32 songs)
U2 (31 songs)

5. Garbage (36 songs)
4. The Chemical Brothers (37 songs)
3. The Beastie Boys (68 songs)
2. The Beatles (103 songs)
1. Oasis (271 songs)

Of course, some bands have deeper collections to pull from...
And if we included solo artist, my bottom 3 would probably look completely different.

Btw, Elvis Costello is not a band. Unless you meant Top 5 artists.

I have not listened to the Chemical Bros. for a couple of years. Are the latest releases any good? I have shyed away from Techno since I got out of the scene, but there are times that I want to get that feeling I get from listening to it. And going to parties of course.

Hmmmm.... 5 is tough.

If by bands we are including solo artists:

(not in order)

Peter Gabriel
Lucinda Williams
U2 (loved them in the 80's- lost respect in the 90's, found religion again in the last few years)
Annie Lennox/Eurythmics
The Clash
Talking Heads

ok, so that was 6- sue me.

New music I'm linking but have no idea if they will hold up over time:

Imogen Heap
The Be Good Tanyas
The Shins

My 36 Chemical Brothers song really doesn't include much from Come with Us (sub-par) and I haven't quite gotten around to picking up the latest one.

I wish they'd keep doing 1 collaboration song with Noel Gallagher each album.

Yeah, Oasis tends to generate a lot of hate, and not too much is undeserved.

If you can, check it out. There's a live performance from the Maple Leafs Garden, Toronto (1.15.98), one in Chicago, Illinois (11.7.98), and, of course, his track on Fire & Skill: A Tribute to the Jam (The best one).

The funny thing is during one of the live performances he actually forgets on of the lines. The audience gets a huge kick out if.

Anyway Noel's voice is way better than Liam's. It's acoustic, though, and therefore a radical departure from the style of The Jam (I about sh*t myself when I listened to the original track I d/led from the iTMS), so that may turn you off.

Edit: I enjoyed Blur's self-titled album immensely, though I've never sampled any of their other ventures.

I don't hate them, they just never got me that interested. And Noel does have a better voice, from what I've heard.

With Blur I recommed the Parklife CD, but they have piles of great songs all over the place. Some of their later experimental stuff (like 13) turns me off, and their last album was awful.

I think there's a (decent) Jam compilation iTMS, if you're interested, although I highly recommend seeking out All Mod Cons, Setting Sons or Sound Affects.

Yeah, 5 is hard. The only way I was able to do it was by limiting myself to artists who are still producing new material:

The New Pornographers
Foo Fighters
Queens Of The Stone Age
David Mead
Hubcap (local alt. country band)

Including groups and artists:

1. Crowded House (#1 by far - 5 superb albums filled completely with songs I really like)
2. Stevie Wonder
3. Marvin Gaye
4. Michael Jackson
5. The Isley Brothers

Honorable Mention: Ella Fitzgerald, Prince, The Beatles, Aretha Franklin, Notorious B.I.G., Public Enemy, Black Star (Talib Kweli & Mos Def)

I didn't include Neil Finn solo or the Finn Brothers since Crowded House is already #1.
