Adobe has announced Photoshop Elements 8. Is anyone excited? Do you think it's a nice update? Are you missing any functions?

Not sure if it's enough for me to ditch Pixelmator although I do miss layer effects (e.g. emboss, outline, etc.) which I use for logos...

The lack of reaction here seems to say more than any of the posts.

@cgc
How do you like Pixelmator 1.5 so far? It really has come a long way (I started using version 1.0 or 1.1 -- which were not that usable because of performance and crashes), it's a pretty robust app.

It's a decent upgrade, not sure if it's enough to make anyone rush out and buy it if they already have a fairly recent copy of Elements. I've always enjoyed using Elements, it does pretty much everything I need it to (even though I own Photoshop CS4 and have phased out of Elements).

I use Pixelmator for basic image editing after I let my Photoshop 7 license lapse. I think it's grown from a fairly slow cumbersome app to a quick image editor that I enjoy using. There are a few things I'd changed or added (mostly layers and GUI related)but all in all it was well worth the price I paid (got it in a MacHeist or MUPromo Bundle...forgot which) and definately worth it's current price of $59.

Yup, I also bought it when Photoshop 7 broke (I think it refused to start up after the upgrade to 10.4). I had gotten it as a gift from a friend (who has purchased a student license of the whole design suite).

I would also like to see some improvements regarding layer masks, but to be honest, I don't photoshop my pictures that much.

Here's my purchase history:
Photoshop 5.0 LE (i.e., limited edition? -- wasn't that the first 'Elements' ?)
Elements 2.0
Elements 6.0

At this rate, think i'll wait until "this one goes to eleven".

Yeah, that's about my history, too. What's to gain from PE6 to PE8?

Same bullshit pseudo-Windows interface and wizards.

Nothing screams "We don't care - now pay and shut up" like Adobe software.

Biggest feature: Snow Leopard compatibility.

Now pony up.

Download and try Pixelmator, the interface is refreshingly Mac-like and it does not have any wizards. Plus, it's cheaper.

Is Elements 8 available yet on the Mac, I thought it was PC only at the moment.
