I have a mac pro and running boot camp 1.1.2 and windows xp. Everything is fine except the sound comes from the internal speaker in the mac and not the speakers (they work fine under mac os). Is this a know bug? I searched and others seem to have this issue. Any resolution?

It's a driver thing. The driver is using the system's speaker instead of the sound card for sound output. There may actually be a setting for this in the sound settings under Windows...

Same with Vista. It *is* using the realtek sound 'card' (as ghporter called it) but routing sound only to the internal speaker.
The Vista drivers let you choose optical output, but my speakers are connected to the line out, so have the same problem as you.
I'm actually not too bothered, as internal speaker is fine for beeps, and I use headphones (front panel) for playing Windows games.
Would be nice if Apple fix the drivers to let you choose speakers though.

I plug a old headphone jack convertor in the headphone jack to silence the internal speaker, which plays regardless of whether I have my speakers on or not.
I have found that occasionally, I have had to unplug and replug my speakers into the tower to get sound. Also, I notice that the maximum volume level seems to change in Windows from boot to boot, I think it is partially dependant on what the volume was when I shut down the OSX side.
