is i-sight the only webcam that works on macs. i dont know anything about them, but i was walking through an electronics store and i noticed how cheap webcams were and thought of buying one. i looked at the i-sight and it was WORLDS more expensive. i hope that's not my only option. any others out there?

there is some shareware drivers that let you use some USB webcams…

I would do some numbers and check out if it is worth or to get an used iSight is still a better option. The iSight is a beauty.

For one thing, it's not the world's most expensive, and you get what you pay for. iSight is comparable in price to other webcams of similar quality. The $30 webcams can't even come close.

I'd agree. The iSight is way better in low-light situations, and its FireWire interface provides a very clean, fast 640x480 image. Most USB webcams still produce low-res or choppy images (though surprisingly, Apple's built-in iSight cams in their new machines are internally USB-based, but still work very well).
More expensive, yes. But as said above, you do get what you pay for in terms of quality.
To save a few bucks, you can always check out eBay now that most of Apple's machines include them.

What programs do isight work with? I asked a while ago but no one answered. Does it work w/ yahoo? msn messenger? It can't just work solely for ichat...
