yeah. The dev of konfab was a bit pi$$ed off earlier about this if it was true.

Mind you, seeing the Apple ones, konfab guys have nothing to worry about. Still, this is all really early stuff they're demoing.

Got to say though, the whole Longhorn attack isn't really working here. Not seen much in Tiger to make it seem like it's offering much over LH. The new search functions, the dashboard, all in Longhorn, but better.

Oh well, time I guess.

Hmm, over all 10.4 looks pretty good. I can't wait until 2005 for the release! Oh and I am guessing all systems will soon be migrating to a 64-bit processor. 64 bit OS X

Well, I'm a not impressed... but not dissapointed either.
All screenshots were real, "Pipeline" seems to be a VERY powerful tool. Dashboard... hard to tell. I started using Konfabulator 4 days ago and I'm going to pay for it now, guess he needs our support. The Releasedate of Tiger seems obvious (MWSF2005), however, I hope that apple manages to push 10.5 out before/shortly after Longhorn is beeing released.

I'm pretty underwhelmed by Tiger so far. Not much has really been said though. Stil waiting to hear about those Longhorn beating features.

Well I think the whole point of that was to show 'hey, we'll have the same features but quicker than you' type of taunting.

Tiger pics up at Apple's site. God, I hate to mention Longhorn again, but they've just ripped-off LH's Window functions in the Finder.

While I would agree that the widgets in Dashboard are ugly, I'm sure that what comes with the final version of Tiger will be more polished. At least I hope so.

I'm not sure that the new search feature is as sophisticated as what's going to be in Longhorn, but for the end user it will probably be just as good. I'm rather underwhelmed by Tiger -- it really seems like Apple is trying too hard to cram new features into every OS release; they're trampling over third party developers left and right.

Apple was on an incredible roll in terms of "really exciting" product releases and updates. It had to slow down some time.

I think many of us are wondering when Apple is going to release another lifestyle device or some kind of paradigm-shifting tool/toy. I honestly can't think of another company that has these kinds of expectations to live up to on a regular basis. All in all, Apple does pretty well by us, though I find it annoying to see its prices trending higher.

Seems like they are bring back the "color" to OS X after Apple went for a more bland look in Panther

Yup. It's mostly all glitz, but the core issues seem to remain. Networking, dynamically updating Finder windows, etc.

I don;t mind the new features, but I need things like Firewire to work flawlessly, networking too. Get that right, then throw in the dashboard bubbles.

What's the deal on the graphics card issue? Will it be a single one to drive the display and all graphics functions? Or maybe a second card purely for displaying?

After look at the displays page, it has become apparent why they needed to produce a 30" screen:

One thing I do like, are the elongated titlebars, very nice. Kinda makes it look that bit different. I'm actually glad they're sticking with the Panther look mostly. It's a good of confidence in one's interface when you don;t keep chaging it.

According to Apple's site, the new graphics card can drive 2 30" displays at a time!

Look over in the box showing the graphics card :

Come to think about it, that Spotlight looks a bit like a Launchbar Rip-Off. Or is it just me?
Hmm, Konfabulator, Launchbar... well, I'm happy to get them "free" with the OS, though the developers may not be so happy about it.

btw, looks like they finally got rid of the "pinstripes". yay!

Well, being completely selfish here, nVidia and ATi are really the only GFX boards that Apple use. ATi are sh!t, complete crap for 3D work. In the low-end you could get away with an ATi, but they really shine in 2D software, and games. nVidia are a much stronger, more reliable, and solid product for 3D. It's a no-contest these days. ATi have let down so many on the driver front for 3D in the last few years and to the point they are virtually laughed at by 3D animators.

Even though the boards/drivers offered by Apple still fall short of what is needed in 3D, it's stil a good steo forward to be able to use a nice Apple display with the knowledge that you can get decent performance out of any 3D tasks.

But that's just my own view and I'm sure most people buying such a display won't be needing to run 3D applications.

Looks like a theme knocked up in the GUI forum. Quite like the Grey highlight on the endcaps. Lots of elements seem to have a glass look.

The 9800 XT is a more powerful card than the GFFX 6800. Is the extra DVI port really worth that extra money?

I'm still soaking all the Tiger stuff in, but so far I'm kind of in the middle. I think I'll have to play with it first. At least all the metadata whiners are creaming their pants in joy.
