I wasn't paying attention when I was putting my battery in and started spinning the screw/latch thing too much clockwise. (Somehow got it in my head that the bottom of the groove had to be spun up CW and not the top of the groove spun down CCW.) When you do that, the screw begins to lift out past the bottom of the iBook and the plastic ring around it pops out a little.

I then turned it back the other way and everything's fine again, except for that platic ring. It now sticks out a little.

Try not to throw too many bricks at me for my stupidity. I installed half a gig of ram, and I was a little excited. *cough* *whistles innocently*

Learning learning learning. It's my first iBook.

While we're on the topic of things not to do: don't laugh while watching a dvd on your iBook and eating yoghurt at the same time. It's a pain in the @$$ to clean up.

Hello,

I'm so glad I wasn't eating yogurt when I read your post!

Here's mine: be sure to unplug all the wires or put the computer away in a safe spot overnight in case your crazy cats get caught up in the wires and cause the computer to fall off the desk and break the latch while you're sleeping.

or, how about moving your coffee out of the way before reaching for the ethernet cord before knocking it ontop of your keyboard and watching as it seaps down, not knowing what to do, you just watch...

Fortuanetely, I didn't fry anything and it is working as good as new after doing a major clean up, inside and out!
