i'm interested in writing applescripts, but don't have a clue as to where to begin. any sites with very basic tutorials and such for applescript?

Also, there are a number of examples in /Library/Scripts that are included with your OS X install. You can use the Script Editor to open these. They are extensively commented and you can save copies to modify and explore.
