It was like in beta 3 form I think, and then I heard nothing since.

Nope, it was never finished. Gordon doesn't have any spare time to spend on it.

Ryan Gordon's more complete port is in closed beta testing. Keep an eye on this page for infrequent updates. It's listed as the "UTPG" project. When it's done, downloads will be available from utpg.org

As beeing one of the beta testers for the UT99 UTPG version for MacOS X i can tell you that Ryan is working on it and that it is running very well at the moment but there are still bugs which is beeing taken care of by Ryan.

Keep your eyes on his finger page for updates on the subject

a lot is broken or poor performing.
opengl is very old and buggy, openal is poor as well.
no window mode support and a lot of other things.

pr3 is just ok. but the performance the utpg version have is way beyond that.

Really!? Wow. Cool. I mean, it runs great at 1600X1054 on my machine, it should be fantastic once the new release comes out then!

I hope it can play the original Unreal. I could never get that hack to work on UT in OS9.
