I've had the oddest thing happen with ScriptEditor since I installed the Logitech MouseWare for its WheelMouse optical mouse. I can open scripts, and I can even write scripts and save them--but if I try to use the record function, the computer immediately crashes. MacBugs says that the last application involved is the MouseWare stuff, so I assume there's some problem there.

Unfortunately the latest version of MouseWare sucks! Nothing but problems. It seemed to me, that if you made a list of possible problems you could have with a program, and made a program consisting of those problems alone, this would be it! I recommend going back to the earlier version. I have!

The MouseWare software suplied by Logitech is definitely weird. I've not had any crashes, but I noticed that (get this) when I'm in BBEdit and use the scroll wheel, AOL Instant Messenger goes into "idle" mode (so that people who try to contact me while I'm scrolling get the automated idle message LOL). Very strange, but absolutely repeatable.

The software seems to be incompatible with SmartScroll as well. It doesn't work at all (no movement) when using USB Overdrive.

I love the optical mouse, but it has problems, not only with the software. It is very finnicky about the surface you use it on. For instance, it won't track properly on my wooden desk at the office, but tracks fine on my (similar) wooden desk at home...

I have also seen weird problems. Here is a copy of my recent problem....

{ Just a warning to anyone on the Mac side of things with a Logitech USB MouseMan
Wheel mouse.

I have just confirmed that the new set of drivers and control panel (3.5) do not
work with ArchiCAD. I would not update from the web yet. I don't know the
actual source of the problem, but it will show its face when you try to import
or export a dwg/dxf file. Everything else seemed to work fine. Sorry if
someone already posted this, I haven't been able to keep up with the reading
these days.....

I can only speak of my installation : G4 (AGP), OS 9.0.4, ArchiCAD 6.0 v5

Hope this saves some people the headaches I have had....and thanks to Johnathan
@ Graphisoft for the tech support.... }

Anyways, I found no increase in usability, and more headaches than needed. Hope they come out with a useful update.

I also have problems with the MouseWare drivers and my (non-optical) Wheel Mouse.

Script Editor is a frequent source of annoyance, since using the scroll wheel in this app results in extremely aggravating repeated attempts at scrolling that never work. I can switch to another app and come back and the apparent freeze in Script Editor unblocks itself. (Then, I just get all the scrolling attempts, which makes the app fritz out for a few seconds.)

I've seen the same behavior in some dialogs.

I've also had problems with two of the same mice at work, with the 3.1 and 3.5 drivers, on Rev A iMacs. They tend to cause crashes if multi-button support is turned on it StarCraft and SC: Brood War (v 1.07); crashes don't happen if multi-button support is turned off in SC's startup options.

The v 3.5 MouseWare drivers turn on the stupid Web wheel feature, which I must immediately disable. I also tend to hate the smart cursor feature, which moves the cursor to the default button in dialogs. (I can do that myself, thank you, and it's a lot less disorienting.)

Still, I like having buttons and the scroll wheel more than I like the features of the Apple Pro Mouse I got for free last week. But it's a close call ... if Apple had more than one button, the Logitech would be relegated to number 2 for me. Especially on my PB, where having a good optical mouse saves carrying around a mouse pad. Can't stand Apple's Pro Mouse for games! Urgh!

Thanks for the suggestion that earlier versions of Mouseware cause fewer problems. I downgraded to v. 3.12 (with 8--eight!!!--USB extensions) and now I can record with the Script Editor once again.
