I have a 12" G4 and I pulled it outa sleep mode with the lid open a little while ago and if froze. I did a force restart, and I can hear the chime, then it goes to a blank grey screen which occasionaly flicks to black, and then back to grey? I reset the PRAM I believe, any other ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Josh

hard to tell from here, but...
fact that you hear the chime, and that you can adjust brightness, suggests it's not hardware...

you cant boot from the cd?
diskwarrior might be worth a try...

if you can get to another mac, try target disk mode (firewire both macs, with the other mac at the finder, boot from your pb holding the "t" key.

see if it mounts, what things look like. you may want to back everything up then.

not much help, but somethings to consider, anyway.

or call apple, might be worth it.

good luck!

EDIT:
remove the battery, unplug the pb.
hold option-control-shift-power for 1 second, then release.
(resets the power manager)

try booting holding the "r" key (resets the screen)

try command-s on boot, and type fsck -y (there's a space before the dash),
then type reboot after that runs.

Its a display or graphics card problem. I hooked it up to an old CRT, and it goes to the default aqua blue background, and I can see my mouse etc. Any new ideas? Please help.

close the lid and hook up the computer to the old CRT, and if you have an external mouse or keyboard, plug it in click something (a key, a mouse button, etc), and if it it works, something's wrong with your display.
