I was very excited to see that gmail has started offering IMAP access and switched my Mail.app account over from POP to IMAP. Of course, with such a large number of messages in my gmail account, poor Mail.app churned and churned and churned and just didn't seem to know what to do with itself.
So I decided that it was probably best to stick to POP access. Except now I'm stuck with two smart mailboxes with hundreds of ghost messages in them. They are greyed out and if I open them, nothing appears in the message window. I have the option of undeleting them but redeleting them simply greys them out again. They do not show up in the main Inbox for the account, nor in the Trash folder. I have deleted the IMAP version of the gmail account all together, which warns me that it will delete all associated messages from the account.
I've tried deleting and recreating the smart mailboxes, but that doesn't help either.
It's more annoying than anything else, but I'm at a loss as to why this would have happened.
Any ideas?
