I just noticed that you can rearrange the elements on the right side of the menubar (date/time, Airport status, Displays, battery life, etc) by command-dragging them around. I don't recall seeing this anywhere, so I figured I'd post it.

Note, though, that this only works with true Menu Extras. Status Items (the stuff some apps put into the menubar, like Proteus, WeatherPop, and iJournal) cannot be rearranged in this way.

this wasn't obvious? I thought the command-drag thing was very natural for me to expect, it was the first thing I tried with the menu extras when I began to use OS X.

IMO, I think the menubar is great for adding status indicators. I wish there was an additional menubar at the bottom of the screen that could hold even more status indicators (and icons of open apps that you can click on to get to that app). I would prefer an additional menubar at the bottom to the dock.

Here is a link that has some information on apps for the menubar.
