I love this app but it crashes constantly for me (after which the deamon continues to download but I can't start any new downloads until I restart the deamon or sometimes the computer). Any news on an update?

I love mlMac. It works great! Kudos to the developer!

The donkey part doesn't work. I could never get it to work but I'm not bothered; Fasttrack works great and I am happy!

I haven't been able to connect to any FastTrack servers, since yesterday? Anyone else experiencing this?

[EDIT] Nevermind, it just takes a really long time

Here is a preview of mlMac 0.6:

The icons are not yet definitive, but not far..
This is half english/half french, but normal, just half translated ;-)
Hope you'll like it..

Is there a reason downloads sometimes stall, or take forever to start?

Am I the only one who gets horribly slow downloads? I'm talking 2k/sec slow. I tried several different files and the highest speed was 3.3k, then it dropped to 2. I'm on cable, and usually get speeds of 250k/sec.

As many know, Apple doesn't follow their own current UI guidelines regarding the use of brushed metal, but why use it in this application?

I like the new icons, but don't understand why the metal appearance is being used.

Then again, those guidelines may change tomorrow...

What are you talking about ? Downloads from edonkey or fasttrack network ? Fasttrack support is beta, and a lot of downloads just never finish. Edonkey implementation is quite good in mldonkey/mlmac, and it may indeed take forever, it just depends on sources, how much you ul, your rank, direction of the wind... The donkey network is well-named, not always fast, but reliable.

To see if there is any problem, check the web interface (http://127.0.0.1:4080), in the connected servers, if your ID is high. You can also test it here. If the test fail, check your port/firewall/router config.

A great test is also to try to dl a very popular file (have I said "porn" ? ), you can check if your config is ok.

I have found the fasttrack network to be just as reliable as the Donkey network. I've been getting 700mb files at 2k/sec. They take a week at being connected 24/7 but they do finish if you give them the time.

nice work. hasn't crashed yet (first 10 minutes). anyway, how about an option to sort by total file size and by percent completed? did I miss these?

oh yeah, and can you display the time remaining on each download?

and be aware that I only nitpick because I care :)

it stayed running all night! but in the morning the app (not the daemon) was using about 30% of my dual 1 ghz quicksilver's cpu (system load). BitTorrent was using another 60% (also system load). Not sure what it means. I had to restart each of my other apps before they would become responsive again (I started by quitting those two).

works great!. suggestion is to launch let it load and it should work great..don't forget to open the necessary ports. I'll keep x11 version for a back-up.

Wow! This is only getting better! The web interface is amazing. I took the test, but I only got this in return:
Code:
timeout : timeout on ip 62.101.xxx.xx (6 sec) this means, that we even did not receive a RESET signal; maybe due to a 'stealth' firewall
But I have my mac with firewall enabled behind a Linux box with firewall and DHCP which is behind a router. So that figures it, but I am at a stable 50-60 kb/s right now, so this is looking promising. BTW: My setup is just a mockup I'll have temporally.

0.6 is looking really great, however I don't seem to be able to do more than 1 search without relauching the app.

It reserves the drive space for the file before it's downloaded. So if you start to grab two 600mb disks of a movie, then that's 1GB (ish) of space gone right away, even if the Download has not compleated.

I find with 0.6 that the Kazaa downloads are slower to start but I get much faster download speeds. A worthy trade off.

All my kazaa downloads just say "Waiting to start" and have been for the last twenty minutes. eDonkey files are downloading okay. Possibly a port problem? Which ones should I check for Kazaa?

I notice that under Availability in a search window that everything from Kazaa says 'n/a' while lots of things from donkey show the number of hosts.

BitTorrent is great, but that's not an 'alternative' since :
- BitTorrent is different from KaZaa and eDonkey because it uses links and does not provide search features.
- mlMac can also connect to the BitTorrent network..

Am I doing something wrong with my Kazaa downloads? The web interface lists many sources for the files, but they don't seem to download. I've opened ports 4660-4670, 6882, 5534, 6346, and 1214.

For all networks/download problems, you should look for mlnet's FAQ or something.. mlMac is just the GUI ;-)
Btw, it's normal that KaZaa results say n/a since mlnet doesn't tell the availability of files from kazaa.

It's impossible to find TV shows on BT...

I'm finding tons of them on mlMac, which is the reason it's much better in my opinion. Plus, BT rarely worked very well. I got those speeds occasionally but very rarely.

is there a way to delete a temp file while mldonkey is still running ?
the finder says that the file is in use even after i've killed the download, and when i used rm -rf from the terminal , the file was gone but i didn't get any diskspace back.

i think it was the same when i was using the web interface, so it might be mldonkey and not mlmac.

I installed mlMac for the first time today, and it launches fine, downloads mldonkey, then goes into a loop and never finishes installing. Can I isntall mlnet manually and will that fix it?

Ah, well I never can find Will & Grace eps or Six Feet Under eps on there that actually download. And all the ones I've found on mlMac have worked without a hitch, so, while they may be heavily traded, I've had a lot more luck finding reliable downloads on mlMac.

I ran into a problem where mlMac would crash after trying to install the newest version of mlnet. I just deleted the mlMac folder at /Users/your_user_name/Library/Application\ Support/mlMac and tried again. Worked the second time.

Try it, it might work for you too.

MlMac 0.6.1 is now available. You can do a version check from the app itself.

what's new in this version:

fixed bug that got mlMac stuck on the connecting window

fixed memory leak

fixed update checking bugs

added German, Swedish and Spanish localizations

ready to support Gnutella

updated documentation

fixed minor errors in localizations
Mostly bug fixes, but that's still a good thing. The mlMac creator, Jul, is very busy with a software job opportunity in Paris for the summer, so he doesn't have as much time to improve the app at the moment as he'd like. He does have some really nice stuff in mind for future versions though. So stay tuned...

I'd stay away from the newest release since the search window doesn't even appear when you perform a search. Kinda defeats the purpose.
