are there any ways to program the extra buttons on my logitech three button and wheel mouse? in os 9 i had the thumb button as my back button for browsers. the right click works though.

I'm afraid you're out of luck at the moment. Logitech has no plans to develop drivers for OS X. What you need is USB Overdrive for X, which is still in development (AFAIK).
