New Hard Drive not mounting

Hi,
I recently installed a new hard drive (while booted in X). OS X sees the HD fine, but OS 9 doesn't see it at all. The system profiler doesn't see it, and the icon doesn't appear on the desktop.
I also noticed that a partition that I renamed is still listed in the profiler as the old name, but says that it is un-mounted.
Un-related?
Any suggestions appreciated!

What kind of drive is it? (IDE, SCSI, Firewire, etc.?)
If IDE, is it your master drive, or a slave?
Most importantly, how did you format it? If you formatted it as UFS, Mac OS 9 won’t be able to see it. You’ll have to reformat the drive as HFS or HFS+.

Hi Bojangles,
It's an IDE slave drive. I am pretty sure it's formatted in HFS, but I will try to re-format it.
It's really bugging me cause I want to use it as a dedicated drive for audio files, but the damn OS won't see it!!
Do you thnk the slave/master relationship has anything to do with it?
Also, my 20gig stock drive is in three partitions. Would this affect it in any way too?

If you format it in X, make sure to check the box next to "install OS 9 drivers."

Format it in OS9, and you'll get full compatibility... just less effort that way

Thanks for the advice, guys.
I ended up formatting it again in X - this time ensureing that the OS 9 drivers were installed. That was where I went wrong.
