Research@Intel Wolfenstein gets ray traced - on your laptop!

Read about this on Slashdot. Thought it was nifty. The title is deceptive though, it's being rendered by four honkin' servers and getting streamed to the laptop.

My favorite by far is the sniper scope. Seems to me that could be (and should be) implemented on lesser systems through some hocus-pocus.

I don't know why I put the "D" in the thread title. Wot an idiot.

If a mod happens to read this, can you yank that?

Consider it yanked.

That's what she said.

Very interesting screenshots. I was very intrigued by the idea presented at the end of the article: where most of the game processing would take place in the cloud and an advanced game like that could be played on minimal hardware, like a netbook.

Thank you much!

I know there's a service being tested that does that, but I can't remember the name. Supposedly it works, but there's some skepticism about how it'll behave in less than ideal server load/latency situations.

I don't get it. Those renderings look awful.

What's to get? Those renders have reflections. Others don't.

Simple, eh?
