First new work PC in 5 years. My how things have changed, and not for the better. Everything requires a ****ing account. Windows, Office, Adobe, Autodesk, Red Giant, nVidia, the list goes on. Combine that with a bunch of VPN/port/IP blocking/etc. on the network and you have yourself a disaster.

Rant aside, what good do all these companies have putting software - even free software and point updates - behind an app/login screen? “Piracy?” Data mining?

They want to be able to constantly contact you with offers and renewals. And then sell you to someone else.

When Adobe went to the subscription only model, that's when I decided Adobe was not getting another dime from me. I'm still using CS4. I think part of it might be to cut down on piracy, but with subscriptions, it also might be easier for folks to afford what ever it is a month than pay $699-999 all at once to buy a perpetual liscense.

At work I am forever logging in. Thank goodness for 1password.

For what most people use photoshop for, cs2 is fine... I still am cautious about the Cloud. It is always getting messed up during updates.

Suitcase now requires you to have a suitcase account. Makes it very annoying in a corporate setting where you are not the one buying things or with access to maintain them.

Still running CS5 here. I, too, refuse to let Adobe ding my credit card every month in-perpetuity.

I hate creating an account on various apps/services just to use it. If I download a free app, I cannot use all the features unless I create an account. Want to watch something that is age-restricted on Youtube, you need an account. I login to a rarely used account I have, watch the video, and logout immediately.

I use Word on a daily basis. Never will buy a subscription for that. I only use basic formatting, tracking, and that is all. But I have to use it.

Someone needs to port Photoshop CS2 to a web app. That would work for about 90% of people 90% of the time.

I have zero intention of moving on from CS6 but, it's no longer supported by Adobe and although it runs pretty well under 10.13 it can have "idiosyncrasies" lets say. And it's only a matter of time before it breaks (or is broken. Suitcase is already a pain in 10.13 without the latest point update.

Subscription goes hand in hand with rolling up old versions. The fact that Office 2008 (!!) still runs and works well and that CS3 is still usable is a sign that a decade of updates has added very little value to much software.

Yeah, we switched to Office365 and it is a nightmare.

And now with the 2019 products Autodesk seems to be putting literally everything behind a login screen. Can’t even use the help system without logging in. This is ridiculous.

Seriously, not everything needs an account.

I was thinking of buying 1password instead of using Apple Keychain to manage my passwords, but realized that it is a subscription service. Absolutely not! I am not going to pay a monthly fee to access my own passwords.

Standalone apps for 1Password for Mac and Win are available. Apps just got their first paid upgrade in many many years. It was worth it. Everything is snappy again.

Finding the download link for the standalone app is a bit tricky - best to google for it.
