For some strange reason, safari started to pop up an error everytime I try to load a page when it first launches.

My homepage for instance, I open safari, and I get an error the second the browser window pops up saying "Safari Can't Find the Site". But the site is there, because if I refresh it loads just like normal, its a pain in the ass cause it happens all the time, I've reset safari, repaired the permissions and it still does it.

Does anyone know what is causing this?

Tim:
Maybe there is a problem with your ISP's server. It may not be responding quickly enough to a request from your computer. Suggest you check with your ISP particularly if you have a dial up connection.

Tim: O.K. Have you tried posting your problem on the Apple Discussions Forum @ http://discussions.info.apple.com/ They have a dedicated Safari forum among others. I found this forum helpful in solving a specific Bluetooth problem. Good Luck.

I've started seeing this problem, too.

How many of us have hacked the "WebKitInitialTimedLayoutDelay" by using SafariSpeed, the terminal, or editing the plist?

I have. If any of you have not, we could rule that out.

I'm having the same problem, which is why I've been using Firefox for the past week or so. I haven't modified my Safari install at all...

Many people have had this issue after the current and previous security updates.

DNS error.

You should look at your modem setting, find DNS server address of your ISP and manually enter it into network preferences in system preferences.

I did it and I never again had that dreadful thing of not being able to find a page by safari.

Strangely, I didn't install the 9/30 security update until yesterday, and was having the problem before that.

I had the problem, until yesterday...

Downloaded & ran MacJanitor's "Daily" clean-up.
The problem is now fixed.

Everything seems to be fine since downloading the latest updates through SU. Anyone tried the latest Security update? There was also a QT and iTunes update but I doubt these would have any effect.

My problem has been cured by entering the DNS numbers into the network control panel - everything is fine and lightning quick now.

Alright well how do I figure out what my ISP's DNS servers are? I don't have access to our router information...

Yep putting in my isp's dns ip's worked like a charm.

If you can't find them just google for it, like Cox DNS Servers

Happend to me. i did allot of things. but in the end my homepage url was messed up so it wont load it. LOL

Also back up your bookmarks and delete safari and then download it and install again. Might just be a error in the file when it installed.

This happens to me just about every other link. I haven't tried any of the fixes prescribed here, but apparently they work, so I will be doing that. I surmised this problem is inherent to Apple's webkit (that's what it's called, right?) because I only ever get the problem in Safari and Shiira, both of which utilize webkit... never happens in any of the gecko-based bowsers or Opera or IE (hey, I use IE only for testing purposes), so that is the conclusion I came to.

I'd believe that, except that I also get the error in Firefox sometimes. It does happen more often in Safari, and so there may be additional problems there, but I don't believe the root cause is in WebCore/WebKit.

Not that I've seen, and that's a problem. My guess is that the problem is somewhere in the low levels of the OS, and that there's a second bug in Safari which is making it worse. In other words, two bugs to fix, not just one.

I do have a question for people here: how many of us are behind an AirPort Base Station? I am (AirPort Extreme actually), but the computer I have the problems on the most is actually wired into the network; it's not wireless. My wife's laptop -a Dell which connects through wireless- doesn't seem to have this issue, so I don't think it's an AirPort issue per se, but there may be a problem with the way OSX is interacting with the AirPort.

I'm on airport extreme.

I've also just found another strange problem.

I can access this site:

http://www.olapreport.com/

on IE but no matter how often I try to connect, I can't get onto it in Safari!!

But I can get onto it by using the IP number: http://66.40.99.72/

It looks like a DNS problem but then why can I get onto it when using IE? strange.

found a fix at apple - discussions:

http://discussions.info.apple.com/[email protected]

In a nut shell:
1. Log out of your OSX user account (in apple menu)
2. Log into another OSX account or create a new one
3. open safari
4. quit safari
5. log into your normal user OSX account
6. launch safari

So far this has worked for me.
good luck

Seems to have worked so far... Very odd solution, but thanks!

Edit - I take it back, the problem has seemed to creep back up.

Might this issue have something to do with Saft? I noticed it after I installed and then unistalled it.

Nope, my G5 is completely normal OS with no haxies and I get this problem, though it's improved since I entered manual DNS and turned off IP6. 10.3.5

joining the club with this problem...

tried all of the suggestions....

only one that worked for me so far is manually entering DNS server in system preferences...yay!!

if you don't know your dns...use system profiler and click on network to get the info....

hope this helps...

You'll probably have to contact your isp to get the dns server numbers ... for me anyway the numbers are not the ones in system profiler
