Just saw this on Digg:
http://gertstahl.blogspot.com/2006/0...t-blocked.html

Can anyone who's got a hot macbook check and see if there is plastic blocking the vent? If it's true it's a whole lot easier to fix than reapplying thermal paste.

All glory to the hypnotoad.

Whoa -- that's interesting. Gonna have to check mine out when I get home tonight. Perhaps that'll explain the heat my MB gets. (Though if it doesn't have the laminate, it just means I got a really hot MB).

Don't know -- haven't gone home yet (still at work; 'tis only 1:20 right now where I'm at).

Well, turns out mine doesn't have the plastic, which just means it runs hot even with the proper ventilation.

Engadget put out a call for anyone with a similar plastic cover and found no one. So either it's a one-time manufacturing defect, or a hoax.
