What version of Safari are you trying to install? You need Safari 1.1 with Panther. It should be on one of the Panther discs.

i want to install 1.1, but only 1.0 is available on the web.

i looked through each of the 3 panther disks to see if it was there... no love. do you know where?

so i can understand if it won't let me because i have 1.1 already installed... but i've archived 1.1, trashed the originals, restarted, searched for any more safari files, then finally tried to install safari 1.0 from the web downloaded dmg.

i was hoping to update to 1.1 using software update after that, but still no love. i can't get past that red warning on the install.

at a loss.

Safari 1.1 is not on software update. It is on the Panther install CD. Get Pacifist and extract it from the respective installer package (of CD 1 probably).

Maybe you will also have to make the security update afterwards.
