It's 1:37am on the 17th, where is my OS 3.0?

While in the big Apple Store on Regents St. here in London (the UK version), the Apple sales guy I was talking to got a text from O2 (the exclusive iPhone carrier here in the UK) saying that the new 3.0 OS would be released at midnight on the 17th (funny, I didn't get that text myself, even though I was standing right beside him when he got it). It's now 39 minutes after midnight, and iTunes still tells me that 2.2.1 is the latest OS version).

Hmm, I admit I may be a little eager, but I'd rather not be attempting to download the upgrade when the rest of the world wakes up and is trying to get it from the same server as I am! :-)

I wonder when we _will_ have the upgrade available, please don't tell me it's at the other end of the 17th! (23:59...<tick tock>...then: "There is a new version of the iPhone OS available for download...").

Yours in anticipation,

Chas

Midnight of the 17th is in a little under 22 hours. You've just experienced midnight of the 16th.

Personally, I will not be installing it straight away. If it is as dreadful as OS 2.0 was, I would much prefer to wait until version 3.0.1 or 3.0.2 because I do not want to have to restart my phone every couple of hours just to be able to use apps without them crashing constantly.

I'm also worried that some of my productivity apps might not be 3.0 compatible until updates become available. Nah... sitting this one out for a few days to see how the dust settles.

I'm upgrading as soon as I can get it.

I have a jailbroken phone right now, and I'm so over it being jailbroken (just feels messy/dirty, kind of hard to explain) plus it's been running a bit slow lately. Can't wait for 3.0.

Wonder if it's gonna come out at midnight eastern time (in 40 minutes)!.

Would it be smarter to check apple's iphone webpage, or through the iTunes "check for update" button?

So guess they're not going by Eastern time, it's 12:21 and not up yet.

Maybe it'll be up at 3AM?

I just restored my phone and haven't synced anything yet, so I have a brand new iPhone 3g just waiting for the 3.0!

If anyone else sees it posted, definitely post here to let me know please!

A bunch of tools on Twitter saw the Singapore site which said "coming July 18th" and panicked, telling everyone it had been delayed by a day... :sigh:

Really... have folks on Twitter never heard of the International Date Line?

OK so its about 9.45am here in the UK, I'm in work and it will be 6pm by the time I'm home and settled. So why am I clockwatching for when this update is released?!

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

Well I was going to say that midnight on the 17th in the UK is 6PM on the 16th in California (PDT).

So I would have thought that as it's now 2:44AM PDT, the update should be released if the midnight thing were true. Midnight is 00:00 - the start of the day, not the end of it.

Checking the Apple site, they don't mention time for release so I guess it could be at any point in the day - probably lunchtime or certainly within Californian business hours

3.0 (7A341) is the Golden Master version. There has been speculation that this would be the final release; but there are a few tiny bugs that Apple should iron out on a new build and its subsequent release some time today.

The only app I have that doesn't work on 3.0 at the minute is Pano.

Someone in an discussion thread on apple support actually post links to the correct firmware for the original iphone and 3g. I've downloaded and installed the one for my original iPhone and just got it going. Appears to be working fine. Once I did the firmware, I was able to restore from my last 2.2.1 backup which put all my settings back correct and then I had to resync to get all my media back on. If you are interested in going that route, please read the whole thread and get all the instructions on how to download, remove the "zip" extension etc.

Apple - Support - Discussions - 3.0 firmware is here ...

Edit: please read down to the 13th or 14th post. The first post is the same 3Gs as listed in this thread

Or it is 24:00 and at the end of the day. In common parlance if I say that something is going to happen at midnight I would mean the one at the end of the day rather than the beginning. As the OP is UK based and Apple is US based midnight on the 17th here is likely to mean that it is released during the day in the US. Not several hours before 0:00 (in California) - that would have meant it was due to be released in the US on the 16th!

3.0 is STILL not out? I'm surprised, I was sure by the time I'd woken up this morning they'd have posted it...

It makes sense to do at 6PM GMT (10AM PST?), the same time as WWDC. 4 hours or so.

I suppose so.

I wish the weather was nice out so I could just go outside and do stuff for a few hours rather than it being a rainy gloomy day with only 3.0 to look forward to!

No work until 6PM tonight and no summer classes... hmm, off to find something to distract me for 3 hours!

Check out this thread for their logical release time...

http://www.theiphoneblog.com/2009/06...y-time-debate/

Also appears like several 3Gs shipments are being held by the carrier...I assume because they were scheduled to arrive a day earlier than the 19th...hope it is not some other glitch.

Being on the east coast I can enjoy a few beers for lunch, and unlike like the launch of 2.0 os I'm actually able to download the software update this time.

Although iTunes shows the update, It says it's currently unavailable to the Argentine Store. I'm lighting my flamethrower.

Haha I knew you would JKT!

Find my iPhone is pretty cool, it'll be really useful when the problem arises. Cut/copy/paste also is great.

Landscape keyboard is meh, I feel like I type much faster with the regular layout.
