I have a Power Mac G4/450 (sawtooth, AGP graphics, ATI Rage 128 w/ VGA port), and I really want the new 17" LCD display. I can't seem to get a straight answer on this from Apple's website, so I decided to ask here.
Can I replace my current ATI Rage 128 with Apple's Radeon (w/ ADC connector) kit?
Thanks for the help!

I believe you can. However, if you have the Rage 128 Pro with the DVI connector next to the VGA port, I think you can just buy the DVI to ADC connector. I'm not positive though. Unless you're just itching for that Radeon

thanks Dave, that's a big relief. I've been meaning to get the Radeon for a while now, so now I have an excuse!
If anybody else has anything to add to this topic, I'll be actively checking it over the next day or two.

Yeah. This is a great idea. I saw one of these at my local CompUSA for cheap. Do this is you just need the monitor. If you want the cool graphics card...well, go ahead and empty your wallet .

I just received this in an email:
"NONE of the newer LCD monitors will work without a newer PowerMac (Gigabit
ethernet, ADC connector). Yes, you could get a Radeon card(W/ADC connector)
from Apple but you still would not be able to run the LCD monitor because
you would not be able to power it. These ADC cards require a newer mac
because the electrical power to run the new monitors is being drawn off the
PowerMac using a special "tab or plug" that only comes with the newer
computers. I'm in the same boat as you are. I also have a Sawtooth and have
been hankering for the 15" LCD but it's just not possible without having to
spend another $250-$350 on an external ADC box that several vendors have
come out with within the last several weeks. Also, these ADC/DVI that others
keep mentioning will not do you any good either. All these adapters let you
do is connect an ADC computer to a DVI connection but NOT the other way
around."
This is what I was afraid of. This ADC bullsh*t is the biggest screwup Apple has made in years. They've basically cut people like me right off. I don't know what I'm supposed to do now...
