Hi everyone! I thought it would be cool if there was a thread for icon amatuers like me. The idea is to get helpful feedback and/or tips for those of us trying to become as good as Dave Brasgalla. Here is an assortment of icons that I have created.-

Thanks
Here is a comparison of an iLust icon (left) and my own idea based on it. i made the wine glass in Cinema 4D, the CD in illustrator, and then composed them in photoshop. I could send a psd if anyone wants it. The trash icons and the cig icon aren't finished yet. I'm having some problems with the lighting and gradients for the trash. Perhaps I'll redesign it with a look more like this.(without ripping it off!) Could anyone show me a way to get such a look? (The g5 cheese grater idea)

They're very nice, especially the panther style hammer and sickle (finally an icon I can use for Red Orchestra). My advice would be to make sure they look good at small sizes, including 16x16; that is a sign of a truly well done set.

Not True. All of it was made in PS, from scratch. I have psd of it. I don't know how to upload it though.

You shouldn't have to proove yourself to some tard who automatically thinks its a rip as you have working versions of psd drawing as there will always be someone to put good design down.
Soon as psd's goes out there will always be some ripper taking the source.

Sorry for the mishap, i should have taken a closer look. I will openly admit to my rudeness, i should not have judge that just for a second. After taken a closer look i must of been blind to think that was a rip.... once again sorry.

Could someone help me with getting them out? Thanks.
Also, does anyone know the show The Prisoner? (By Patrick McGoohan) Here is a preview based on that. Idea is simple really. The people in the show wear these badges with a design of a penny-farthing bike.
I'm thinking about making "rover" next...

Re. the Prisoner icons, I'd love to see a whole set based on that show. I loved it (except for the last episode, that is).

If you're getting into icons enough that you'd want to open a site, try talking with the guys at AmbitiousLemon: http://ambitiouslemon.com/ they always seem willing to host Mac gui sites, well almost any Mac site in general.

you already have an idisk, don't you? just upload the .dmg into the "pictures" (yes, i know it sounds cheesy, but its the easiest way) and then give us the link, like you did with the pictures.

you can use spymac. you get email, web hosting, among other things, for free. i wouldn't recommend posting on the forums though, they're a rowdy little bunch.

I plan on making an icon system replacement styled like the finder and trash icons I've made. The trash is currently being redesigned, but I'll keep the original as an alternative. I think the icon set could be described as "cyber punk." (Decorated with the hacker in mind)
I can't say when they'll be complete. How long did it take Dave Brasgalla to make his Matrix set? Maybe if I stick to a deadline similar to his, my icons will look just as amazing.
He is, after all, my God!

I am currently finishing up on the toolbar icons. That was fairly easy, since each icon was based on the same border. I am also brainstorming an icon idea for the folders. no luck yet for those. It's VERY hard to rival those Rev. 2 folders! Also, in personal news, I found a job, which will mean less time on icons. I'm also afraid this job will be the end of me.( I'm gonna sell knives! WHY?!?... ) It seems that the ideal job of becoming a graphic designer is rather a pipe-dream. I can image a lot of people here feeling the same way.
