Anyone have experience with the new C2D models?

Is it still running as hot as the previous models?

Thank you.

Am thinking of getting the new C2D 2.0ghz model, comes with 1GB Ram standard.

My C2D gets a tad warm, but certainly not hot enough for it to be uncomfortable on the lap. I've only occasionally run mine on my lap, usually opting to have it on a desk, but the times I've used it on my lap there have been no discomforting heat issues.

My wife uses hers on her lap all the time and other than 'boy this thing gets warm' it hasn't been a problem. Of course this is somewhat subjective, but I've heard of the first generation burning people. Neither of our second gen C2D Macbooks do that. Feeling the bottom of it right now, it doesn't seem to be unduly hot and I've been running it all day.

Probably from this forum, a bunch of other forums, and from every search result from plugging 'Macbook heat' into a google search since it seems that the only reason that people post about their Macbooks on a forum is when there is some kind of problem.

According to some posts I read when the Macbook was first released you'd think that they were melting through glass coffee tables.

(They weren't, and that was sarcasm. I think there was a little heat problem at first which Apple either seems to have fixed or it never really existed and was just the result of the phenomenon whereby people just like to complain online because they think it's fun, and have the ability. This phenomenon has existed since the first bytes were transmitted on the proto-arpanet.)

Laptops get hot. My employer supplied Dell gets hot too. Hasn't melted through a coffee table yet, but I'm still hoping....

I read it from other Macbook problems. I was so worried bout the heating issue in the CD version till the random shutdown service happens so much, i did not want to get the macbook.

Then Apple released the C2D, since it's 2nd generation, it should be better.

Will get the C2D later today.

Cheers.

Go for it. I have a CD, and it's not uncomfortably hot at all. In fact, beyond the staining issue (which has since been rectified), mine's been flawless. And from what I've heard, the C2D is only better (even cooler, faster, better battery life, etc). You won't regret it!

It's not "cool", but you can certainly use it on your lap although I don't do directly as I still find the battery area gets a little warm for my liking. Fans kick in on the odd moment (still trying to figure out what triggers it) but I think it's probably drive access (I'm running Parallels) or CPU load.
