Hey, I'm fairly new to the forums, and I'm fairly new to macs. I've been adoring them for about 2 months now, and I've decided I will get one after my GCSEs. I'm just curious, would a Macbook be suitable for say, a 23" external screen? And also, would the graphics card be sufficient for playing movies/online games. By online games I mean just little mess about games that you play when your bored.

Anyway, I'd like to get that blackbook because it would match my ipod =], but thats not the only reason haha, I've researched into them and they seem really amazing, and such a change from windows.

Yes and yes.

The DVI port supports LCDs up to 1920x1200, which is the resolution of most 23" displays.

The graphics card is great for anything except some of the pro apps (Aperture, Motion) or the latest 3D games.

I got my wife a black Macbook because it matches her black iPod. And my white Macbook matches my white iPod.

Anyway, yes I use my Macbook with an external display (although I use a 20" CRT) all the time. Plug in the Mini-DVI to VGA adapter and it figures out what to do with it. You can even run separate resolutions. You can use the Display preferences to position the external display wherever you want (side by side, slightly elevated, up down; mine is usually set vertically since the external display is above the LCD on my Macbook.)

I've noted that games such as UT 2004 will disable one or other display during game play (usually defaulting to the LCD, which is fine.) Games like UT2004 play just fine on a Macbook.

You know you and your mrs have a white and black macbook, do you have a black docking station for the black ipod or not? I'm wondering where I could get one as I'd like to have a blackbook, with white wiring, and a black dock with my black ipod on. Also, do you have a wireless apple keyboard in black, and a wireless mouse in black? Just curious =D

Far as I know, all other accesories are in white. At least from Apple. So all my accessories match But the black Macbook does give a cool contrast from the white accessories (other than the iPod) so there is still an aesthetic.

Not to hijack your thread but I sorta had the same question. Was thinking about getting an HDTV and was wondering what the max size I could get?

The MacBook supports up to 1920x1200 on the DVI port. I use mine with a Dell 24" display, which just happens to be 1920x1200, and I love it. Aperture runs fine (at least fine enough for me) but I wouldn't want to try much in the way of games on it.

When I have my MB plugged into my 21" LCD as a second monitor, dashboard/expose effects are really choppy. Doesn't happen when I run headless on just the LCD though. YMMV
