My mom is running an XP machine and using quickbooks. She prints everything to a trusty HP 4L laser-jet printer. I want to buy her an imac and load OSX and XP onto it, and basically allow her to use quickbooks on XP without a learning curve.

I'd like to retain her printer. IF I use a converter like the one pictured (attached) would XP be able to print to it with the usual drivers?

And as a bonus: would OSX be able to print to it? - this may not be as important for the long run because we will have multiple printers in the house on osx machines that could be shared with that one.

Newegg.com - IOGEAR GUC1284B USB to IEEE-1284 Bi-directional Printer Cable - Retail
Thanks

solving my own question.

It seems that xp mostly likes these kinds of cables (even when using an actual mac) and Mac OSX is a little quirky. (this is fine as I doubt my mom will be printing much mac stuff to this printer)
