The sound on the G5 iMac is adequate and nothing more.

It's nowhere near as good as the sound from the ball speakers, and it's not as loud either.

For me it does not matter as I play music via iTunes and AirTunes to my Airport Express.

I certainly good enough for day to day usage, but I would not want to listen to a DVD all the way through on the internal speakers, the sound quality is fine, just not got the power.
There is no bass whatsoever on the G5 iMac, I may did out my iSub to se if that has a positive effect.

I suppose the material that the sound is bouncing off can affect it as well, mine is on a glass table.

I think the sound with iTunes is fine. Especially for personal use. Certainly more base than our old G3 iMac and more than my PB. Ours sits in our kitchen and completely fills it with sound.

However, if you want to watch DVD movies, you better get speakers or use your headphones. The sound is just way to weak even at full power. This was also true with my other macs. I think it has something to do with Apples DVD player.

Even on full volume I find the output very weak from the iMac G5, no bass at all.

TiG4, nice lamp; I almost didn't even see the soundsticks.

After seeing all of your clean and spotless rooms, I had to take a picture that doesn't show the floor. Still a mess on the desk though.

iLikebeer : The "titanium-themed" lamp is from Hurwitz Mintz in New Orleans. They have really neat home furnishings. As for Soundsticks II, I really like the additional touch-based volume control on the right satellite.

TIG4! Be careful with that lamp! It's very close to the iMac and I'm sure it generates a lot of heat after using it for a while. I would put it a bit more to the right, then you'll be fine

was wondering if they where going to put an ipod dock on the imacg5 just to reduce all those wires? maybe one on the stnad right at the back so you could still store your keyboard or even better still recharge the batteries for that too?

Here's the old setup. Worked well for many years but was retired to the basement mainly to store pictures. Blueberry 350 G3. can't remember how much ram i threw into it though. Got a Bluetooth 20" G5 iMac that should ship on or before (famous last words) November 3.

No, just some testing stuff. It's for a course I have at school at the moment. Cocoon is very interesting stuff, shows off the power of XML, but it's very, very hard to learn.

Is there any point to web development towards xml compliance now or do we wait till it all settles down never sure with these things about the uptake of these things as a lot of people are saying its not for web development but I see a lot of hmtl online editors with xml built in bizzare.

Can you and your fluffy bunny enlighten me about how you feel xml should be used

I don't think XML will be the standard for web development in the near future simply because it's pretty hard to learn. And then I'm talking about stuff like Cocoon. You WILL see more sites developed using XHTML soon though, simply because the W3C declares it as THE standard for a website nowadays. XHTML isn't very difficult to learn and in fact when you learn it, it also teaches you the basics of XML.

If you stick to PHP you'll be safe regarding building websites for a while. I do think that the power of XML lies in the fact that you can use it for just about anything. In Cocoon for example I can create a HTML-website, PDF-page, Excel-sheet and OpenOffice.org-document by using just one XML-file. In my opinion the best way to use XML is for data exchange between two different 'systems'. For example, at my work we have a financial program which can export it's data to Excel, but also to XML; with that XML-file we can import it in our own developed program, which can read the specific data it wants (i.e. only the customer's name and address).

You also see that the .plist-files (used for the preferences in Mac OS X) are also XML-documents. That's what I think XML should be used for.

Or, as my teacher says it: In XML you really have a seperation between the data and lay-out. Something that's not entirely true for PHP, unless you put EVERYTHING in a database.

I don't really have that much knowledge on XML though, that's why I'm really struggling with this course, but it's mighty interesting.

The iLamp does not produce a lot of heat. Therefore, I am not worried even if it is adjacent to the iMac.

And I actually "switched" from a 4-button scroll mouse to the Apple mouse. I cannot say that I really miss all the other buttons. Simplicity...

I never thought of the iMac blending into the wall but I can see why it was brought up. I just wanted a comfortable ambience when I use the iMac. It also helps when I am somewhat of a neat freak

This picture looks exactly like my mom's desk yesterday ever... I was sucking all the goodies off her G4 400mhz tower into her new iMac.

Amazing how far we've come in the 6 years since that G4 was brand new and state of the art.

It's amazing, but it hasn't been 6 iirc, the first G4 powermacs were unveiled in august 1999 at seybold if my memory doesn't fail me.
