Very dynamic Apple
Am I the only one that thinks that apple is becoming a pretty dynamic company?
Lets see the facts:
Very aggressive laptop strategy with constant updates (at least during last 6 months).
OS X evolving pretty fast too with several unique applications including iLife last release, Keynote, FCP express, etc.
Just announced iMacs and price drops in eMacs.
Even the new PowerMac and last year?s Xserver.
Of course new technologies such as FW 2, airport extreme, flat panel strategy or even the faking DDR memory bus.
And what about if they get the new IBM chip sooner than expected.
Not so long time ago, it could take a year for a product to be updated,.but lately I?m very surprised that Apple is being so active even when the industry seems a little down.
Any thoughts?
Cheers

They HAVE to be active with small innovations as the DAMN G4 ain't going anywhere fast...I mean, comeon.. When I bought my Pismo 2+ yrs ago it was at 400mhz and windows laptops were at 500-700mhz, now, my brand new TiG4 is at 867mhz and intel is at 1.8+
Desktops are even more embarassing, with Apple only JUST getting to 1.4ghz while the intel world is nearing 3ghz, and the much touted 970 is only going to be at 1.8ghz when it MIGHT ship in Q3, while intels new chips will have many of the 970s advantages at 3+ghz...
Gotta do SOMETHING to innovate if the chips aint there...
Don't even get me started on the sorry state of desktop video cards (just FINALLY getting 9700 shipping...)

Too bad their stock isn't so "dynamic" to represent all these great things going on at Apple...

cschmelz,
To be fair to Apple, the lack of G4 progress it not Apple's fault. I think we can safely assume that if Moto had their act together, we'd have much higher frequency chips out there.

Do you actually belive this? You need a lesson in the technologis upon which the PowerPC 970 is based, basically even at 3.0Ghz teh 1.8Ghz 970 would still beat those chips by many magnitudes. Add to that the fact that it would be the first actually consumer 64bit chip, And yes it would be the first consumer chip despite AMD and Intel's 64bit offerings. Since neither of those can be found in any desktops.
What I suggest the rest of you do is go download the Spec_INT and SPEC_fp numbers for the 970 and compare them to the current top of the line CPUs. If your too lazy for that read the prepraperd material from ArsTechnica and Tom's Hardware. Both will show you the huge magnitudes of performance we would gain over PCs.
Lastly by Apple's introduction of a 64bit chip it would signal PC makes that its time to switch to 64bit and the Itanium last I checked was at 800MHz and the Hammer at 1.1GHz so at 1.8GHz Intel and AMD will have to catch up to us and unlike Motorola IBM actually knows what its doing and has the ability to provide us with the chips on time, everytime.

Ummm... Maybe you should take your own advice. The SPECint and SPECfp number for the 1.8 GHz PPC970 have it slower than currently available P4 chips.
That said, it will still be a nice fast chip, esp. since the PPC970 can be had in multi-processor boxes, whereas the P4 cannot.
