They all look very interesting.
I kind of like the top two though. Keeps the look professional yet with that Apple edge to it.
This is a purely a wishful thinking kind of thread.
What do the rest of you think?

The designs here are more like examples of the headless consumer Mac that some people want Apple to build than the PowerMac. They probably won't make any significant changes to the design of the pro tower for awhile.

Ya right! After the first release Apple is redesign the G5's? You'll be lucky to see a new look within 3 years.

I think all of these are interesting and I like the idea of top venting from both form and function standpoints. Unfortunately, though, people will set books, folders, etc. on any flat surface without thinking about it which would cause problems with overheating.

You do all realize there is quite literally zero percent chance of a change, right? The processors have barely been upgraded... what makes you think that slow-as-molasses Apple would alter a brand new case?
Alright, give 'im the stick.

I think all of these designs are fantastic. I would have to agree that I think the top 3 models are much more "Apple Like" than the others. But this guy really has something. I also agree that there will more than likely be no case change for a few years. Unfortunate too, because I think these new cases are horrible. I have to stare at one every day at work - I just think they are clunky looking.
I hope Apple does rethink their case design ideas. I would like to see them cutting edge again. Personally, I don't see anything cutting edge about this current case design - other than the mother board of course. I just wish they could have achieved the same thing without going the completely angular route. It just looks too cold for an Apple machine. I am going to have a really hard time getting rid of my 933 - I just LOVE the way those towers looked - Like a pillar of glass.... We will see.

In the end, its all about the composition.

I would think the fact that your Mac would die if you spilled a cup of coffee on it is a fairly good reason why you won't see this design 'innovation' in a tower Mac. Ever.

Aren't almost all of them looking kinda big - compared to a CD or an optical drive (whatever is pictured)? When going from G4 to G3 Apple significantly "enlarged" the case. Unless processors will be so fast that Apple goes back to all single processor lineup.

The first one is the best. The last one looks like a cow utter or cute Japanese walking toy.

Alright, give 'im the stick.
You said it.
I could easily see Apple delaying a new product line because 'the case isn't quite just right', but not the G5. That would be too wacked, even for Apple. Maybe the G6.

I merely posted these because I found them online and they looked cool (ok, some of them).
If I had to choose, I would pick the first choice.
I realize that they will not redo the case for sometime.
But it would be nice to see the size of the case grow smaller as time goes on.
Now that the new G5's use 1/3 the watts (therefore produce 1/3 the heat, in theory), Apple should be able reduce the case size.

Any new design like that (which I do NOT expect) would not replace the current G5 Power Macs. It would be a different product - ie. the headless xMac or Cube-clone, likely single CPU. If priced correctly, it would sell well, but the key is that "priced correctly". Plus it would probably destroy iMac sales. Not that iMac sales are that great anyway...
BTW, you can vote for all-of-the-above in the poll.

Ya but in a year they will be twice as fast. That is why the current ones are over cooled.

No.
Dual 2.0 G5 was announced 6/2003.
It is almost a year later and there is nothing even close to twice as fast. In fact, there is nothing new at all.
Which is sad.

I sure hope Apple won't go with any of these cause in my opinion, they're all butt ugly.
