If you had to choose ONLY ONE to be cancelled and the other one to remain on the air to live on as it will, which show would you cancel?

The Simpsons or South Park?

Why?

The last few episodes of The Simpsons have been decent. The series has its ups and downs, but overall it is more consistently enjoyable than South Park.

With South Park, the characters do not have as much potential for development. Most people probably can't tell you the differences between Stan and Kyle, and Kenny can't speak, so Cartman is responsible for carrying most of the show. Like the rest of the them, though, Cartman is still 2-dimensional, which limits his range of expression, and in the end his character can't become as sophisticated as someone like Bart or Homer.

The only advantage that South Park has is that the show is not necessarily restricted to the four main characters. Whenever they start getting stale, they can just focus an episode on a secondary character, whereas in The Simpsons, every show has to revolve around the family.

As much as it bothers me to say this, the Simpsons have not had a decent episode in years, and South Park just seems to be getting better and better. I wish the Simpsons would have gone off the air a while ago. They have been recycling the same crap for so long that it just seems too formulaic now. Then again, South Park depends solely on topical humor, and thus the episodes probably won't be very funny in a year or two (unlike older Simpsons which will remain funny for eternity).

The Simpsons is a hollow shell of its former self. Compare Seasons 2-9 to the last several seasons and you'll see just how dramatic the decline has been.

The Simpsons jumped the shark when they stopped focusing on Bart to instead focus on Homer.

The Simpsons is getting worse and worse and worse. Haven't seen an excellent episode in years.

South Park, on the other hand, still manages incredibly prescient humor, albeit in a crude manner.

Simpsons deserves the axe; South Park can stay till it goes stale.

I love the simpsons and that is exactly why it should be cancelled -before it really sucks.

Thats why legends are legends usually, just think if elvis was alive and still making music, he would have much less of an image that portrays a legend, instead he would seen as a has been who cant keep up with the youngins... or something like that.

I'd rename every single reality show "The Simposons," then cancel them all.

I have never liked South Park.
Recent simpsons line when homer was talking about vegetarians and asks "well what do they eat? lightbulbs?"
the show isn't as good as it once was, but it sure beats reality tv and fake drama lawyer/police and medicine shows.

Believe it or not - I don't know the Simpsons. I have seen one episode some years ago. The good thing is, that I will see them eventually when I can find time for this experience. I know they must be good and sometimes excellent, so I have a lot of catching up to do.

My South Park experience on the other hand is slightly different. I have seen every one episode at least two to three times, my favourites more often. There are good episodes, and there are exceptional episodes (406 - Cartman joins NAMBLA, 217 - Gnomes, 801 - Good times with weapons and dozens more). Season 4, 7 and 8 are the best, I don't like (first half of) 9 so much. I am just too SP biased to make a well balanced choice - I guess I vote Simpsons...

i'd like a simpsons/southpark series with just Homer & Cartman in it..since those are the only two characters i like in those two shows.

hmm, toughy but i would prob get rid of the simpsons. South park is brilliant and definitely makes me laugh more than the simpsons does. It has gone downhill recently and i much prefer futurama now to the simpsons.

Yeah, the Simpsons suk.

When I first heard of the name Jessica Simpson, I thought they were talking about the cartoon daughter or some young ho from the show.

The Simpsons isn't what it used to be and I rarely watch the new episodes which come onto TV. However, many of the jokes within South Park are in quite bad taste. I really loathe that show.

South Park is and edgy current event type of show and to a certain extent the Simpsons has slowly tried to become that as well.

Simpsons has totally lost track of all that has made them great in the past (IMO seasons 6-10 are pure gold) they now try to intergrate pop-culture and currents events in their lives as opposed to the complete and utterly detached world of Springfield of the past. Also instead of using original music they rely on pop music to much.

My vote goes for Simpsons to go off the air, yes I do believe that they shouldv'e done it a few years ago but at least 3 or four episodes in the last couple of years have been really funny. South Park still makes me bust a gut but unfortunately its on cable and I can;t afford that shiznat.

Excellent commentary. Might I add however that all of the recent episodes of the Simpsons have been sucking majorly. It's as if they lost some of the original writers they had or are simply running out of ideas. Few shows, however, can beat classic Simpsons episodes.

Because it's so commonly used as a pejorative that people don't even think about it anymore? I didn't even notice that he used that particular word, just noticed the meaning...

Besides, maybe he meant that South Park is jolly and cheerful, and actually meant 'gay' in a positive way

I believe that the Simpson's have gone down Hill (rapidly) since 1999, Gone are the days of Bill Oakley and Josh Wienstien (whom both went off and made "Mission Hill")
However I haven't watched a south park episode since 2003, So I am not quite up-to-date

I Voted for the Simpson's to be cancelled, because the newer episodes make me think how they have destroyed such a good thing,

'tune out' as in not watch the show? I haven't seen an episode of South Park for some years. The Simpsons use to have something satirical about them. Now the Simpsons is only concerned with Homer's crazy antics and plot twists which make absolutely no sense.

Simpsons. Please, just axe it. The new people screwed that show up sumthn fierce. The last few weren't bad, but it's not like we're going to get that good **** anymore. Sigh.

At least SP has some decent social commentary. EX: WalMart episode:
A WalMart comes into town and runs the mom & pop stores out of business. The kids try to destroy it the heart of WalMart. It was a mirror. When they get back, I believe they torched it and vowed to buy from smaller stores from there on. Through free market expansion, the small store grows over the years and becomes huge, then they burn it down because it was suddenly so evil and massive.

BTW, the last Christmas episode was…genius. Pure genius.
