...and avoid seeing Van Helsing at the movies. The most agonizingly painful movie since How The Grinch Stole Christmas... simply horrible. I didn't know that they could make a movie two and a half hours long and have it suck the whole time...

Worst movie I have ever seen: Wing Commander.

No words to describe it. You would have to see it to understand. I think it would have actually been impossible for me to find a worse way to spend the money that I spent to see it.

I'll see your $9 and raise you to $10, here in the city.
And of course everything always sells out hours in advance, so that means usually we have to use Moviefone or another advance ticket sale site, so tack on another $2.50 "service charge", argh.

I mean, if Apple can spend 10 cents to sell me a $1 song that it had to rip, store on a server, and download over a huge bandwidth pipe, how does it really cost $2.50 to sell me a friggin' piece of paper with a movie and a time stamped on it? Anyway.

That's actually a very apt comparison, and one I hadn't thought of...

I only paid $5.75, and sat through most of it thinking "I will NOT be buying the DVD."

$160 million and they couldn't hire a writer who could come up with a coherent story? There were, what, EIGHT scenes that relied on a conveniently-placed wire or vine or trapeze that just happened to carry a character to exactly where he or she needed to be?

And what the hell were those weird troll-like things that were working for Dracula?

I saw it and I'll admit some of it was kind of stupid, like the machine gun crossbow. I mean, what is this, a Bond film? But overall, I actually thought it was okay. a 2.75 out of 4.

Plus, I really liked the music. Especially some of the choir-type stuff and the stuff when they were riding the horses.

As for the wires being conveniently there, I thought of that as well then disregarded it since they were in a castle that had tons of wires that were trying to channel the lightning energy to the little vampires..

The troll things though, I admit, those were pretty stupid.

I really wanted to see it, was up for a good action film... and it disappointed me.

* There's way too much lightning. People are bound to get seizures from this film.
* It's way too dark. Consequently, too much schkitzy lightning is used to light up the actor's faces.
* Story was overall weak.
* I didn't really care about any character, even though I love love *loved* Hugh Jackman's Wolverine.
* Kate Beckinsale is abso-smokin'-freakin'-lutely hot. Which is great. Except she's married. Oh well.

Just not fun, the opening-night audience was totally not into it. No reaction at all.

I got to see the Star Wars Ep. 1 trailer with it, so I didn't really pay attention to the movie. Meh.

I disliked Van Helsing more than any movie I've seen recently in the theaters... blech.

$7.00 here, by the way. Seems movie prices are stinkin' crazy ni some places.

New movies are usually DKK 80 where I come from - that's about USD 12.75... but that's in a small town crappy cinema...

If I go to Copenhagen to a good cinema, it's usually DKK 100 (about USD 16)...

Older movies are cheaper, of course...

Berardinelli (my favorite movie critic) gave it half a star-it doesn`t get lower than that: Van Helsing

Well, you can always pick up the DVD in a week or so for a buck. Speaking of which, has Hellboy shown up on DVD yet? I'll be back in civilization in a week or so, and I want to pick that one up.

It was terrible. And i usually am very tolerant of bad films. At least Paris Cinema is cheap for students: 5.50euros Weekdays, 6.50 weekends.

I think that the normal price is around 9 euros?

It's got Qingdao, at least. I'm going to Shanghai, then ending up in Beijing before I get back here. That's what I meant by civilization. I'll probably spend most of my time in Beijing in Half and Half or On Off, though. Need to recharge after all these attempts to get me a Chinese girlfriend.

Haha! Know what you mean!!! (Although having a female flatmate did kind of take the top off)

Feel free to drop a line when you're here, I live about 15 minutes' walk from Half&Half and On/Off (although strangely enough, I've never been inside either...)

Go see Troy instead. Opening on the 14th, and it promises to be much better. But hey, I married a classicist, so maybe that's just me.

As for worst movie ever, I'm surprised that Battlefield Earth has not yet been mentioned. And then there's Grey: Digital Target, which is very hard to find nowadays but takes it for worst anime ever made, hands down and bar none.

"Reptilicus" has, I believe, won awards for being the world's worst movie. I haven't personally seen it, though...

Edit:

HERE.

"Was There a Real Trojan War?

Until the 19th century it was widely believed that Troy and the Trojan war were imaginary. Then, in 1871, a German-born American citizen named Heinrich Schliemann began excavating an ancient city in Turkey. To the amazement of many, this retired businessman had discovered the lost city of Troy (also called Ilion, or Ilium in Latin).

Nine cities have been found at the site, one on top of the other. The seventh city was destroyed around 1250 BC and appears to be the Troy of legend. You can still see the ruins of its towers and its walls, which were sixteen feet thick.

Schliemann identified Troy's location through clues he found in the Iliad, the epic attributed to the Greek poet Homer. Little is known about Homer except that he was blind. In ancient times it was believed that he had lived during the Trojan War, but most modern scholars think that he lived in the 8th or 9th century B.C. His poems weren't written down when they were first composed, but were transmitted orally for many years. Some people suspect that the poems were actually the work of successive generations of poets, and that Homer didn't exist.

Of course, the same thing was once said about Troy. Thanks to the work of Heinrich Schilemann, virtually everyone today agrees that the city whose seige Homer described was quite real. The eccentric Schliemann is often belittled as an amateur, even a fraud, but there is no denying the importance of his discovery. Without him we might still regard the Trojan War as nothing more than myth.

What started the Trojan War? It has been suggested that the Greeks may have been fighting to gain control of the Dardanelles, a water passage between the Mediterranean and Black seas, near Troy. Or perhaps the war truly was fought over a woman named Helen. The truth is lost in the past."

Also, other Scholars believe based on the descriptions of those in the stories, that they were representative not of GREEKS bot other cultures. Vikings to be specific.

Later.

Since there were some mentions, I have to put up Carnosaur for worst movie ever.

Here's a couple of bits from user comments on imdb:

As solid as swiss cheese, as scary as Toy Story, as dumb as "Dude, Where's my Car", as cheesy as "godzilla versus the ice gnomes" and as about as confusing as the people who liked it.
Blatant product placement (a nice shiny coke is in the middle of the screen at one point) as well- i think pepsi might have paid roger corman (the producer) to put coke in this rancid piece of celluloid to damage coke's credibility.
Only to be watched while intoxicated with a group of friends.
Follow that last piece of advice or face the consequences, trust me.

Maybe it's just me... but I can't make any sort of sense out of that...

What descriptions? In what stories? Who was representative of other cultures? Vikings? In the Trojan War???

Even if you ignore the possible historical basis, the story is an old one, and they changed quite a bit; some of the changes, in my opinion, detract from the story, but I'm far too interested in mythology for my own good.
