I find Family Guy to be a funnier show, mainly because it's very edgy and almost pushes things too far. Simpsons is a great show and while it's funny, I don't find myself laughing as much as Family Guy.

The Simpsons in it's prime is a million times better than Family Guy.
The Simpsons is currently so bad, however, that the Family Guy edges it out.
Overall, the Simpsons is better. Currently, Family Guy is better.

Lately Family Guy seems to be trying to mimic South Park in the way it tries to deal with issues like religion or gay marriage. Stick to stuff that doesn't matter, and stop trying to be edgy to be funny.

Simpsons are number one, Family Guy is second. Both are quite hilarious. I haven't seen either almost a year, since I got tired of paying so much money for less than a dozen channels I would watch.

If we are talking overall then it's a no-brainer, Simpsons by a landslide.
Lately both shows have been sucking, Family Guy is real hit or miss and Simpsons has been miss for 5 years.

Am I the only who's noticed that Family Guy has gotten so lazy in its pop culture references they're just flat out recreating scenes from movies for 2 minutes a time now?

Yeah Dakar, I know what your saying.
This past Sunday's episode with whos-his-name from happy days slowly rising out of the mist actually counter-acted laughter I already expelled.

I have a feeling that the people who voted for Family Guy weren't around for the early seasons and are judging The Simpsons based on the new seasons.

I have to agree with Venture Brothers.
I picked up season 2 off iTunes (along with Frisky Dingo) a few months ago.

Well I've fixed the first two of those problems recently, as if things keep going the way they are, the third could be fixed in just a matter of time.

There's a good reason why you haven't seen it yet - Season 3 comes out in Early 2008. . . .
The Simpsons jumped the shark in Season 10. As for Family Guy, if you enjoy it you may very well be a mouth breather.

People still watch family guy? That non-sequitur thing was funny for maybe two episodes. I was trying to watch an episode of it a couple of weeks ago and it was just groan after groan. Heck, at least it used to make me crack a smile now and then. People who like random **** should rather just watch Charlie the Unicorn on repeat. Throw in Adventure Time there too.
Now Venture Bros. Talk about legendary. Even it's average episodes beat out everything that has ever been made. How about a show that is smart, cool, edgy AND funny. Weird that no one tried that one before.
Bring on season three and four. I've seen all episodes at least twice

I've been watching The Simpsons since the beginning. It used to be the funniest show out there, but I haven't laugh out loud in a long while. On the contrary, I laugh out loud a few times in every Family Guy episode. Overall, I agree that The Simpsons is a better show story-wise but it got so sitcomy cheesy over the years. Family Guy don't have great stories, but it has the best jokes. So Family Guy better? probably not. Funnier? Hell yes!

I just assumed that we were talking about each show in their prime.
In other words, I voted Simpsons without hesitation.

Voted Family Guy.
You can't ignore The Simpsons though. In their prime, they were the sh!t. Of course, that was many many TV seasons ago.

You mean like every other show on the networks? Yeah, dumb it down so as not to offend anyone. That way you'll make it likeable for EVERYONE!

The Simpsons dropped the ball after 10 great seasons. Family Guy dropped the ball a few episodes after coming back from cancellation. While I do love Family Guy's first run, The Simpsons is still the all-time champion.

So why did The Simpsons go downhill? Did they hire new writers or something?

It's more of a longevity problem. They didn't know when to stop. Been there, done that,, bla bla bla. Everything that last that long stops to be surprising, inovative and eventually funny. Like 24, it was great the first few seasons but we now know the drill and it's the same old $h!+ all over again, etc. Great shows should not last that long.

I don't see the connection between being "edgy" and being smart. They feel like they have to push boundaries and offend people to be funny. The first couple seasons weren't that way, and they still managed to be funny. I'd say that going the "edgy" route actually appeals to fewer people that being just plain funny.

Venture Brothers is great, but not on the same level of humor of the Simpsons or FG.

Damn straight, I really can't understand how anyone would vote for Family Guy. Mind you, I own seasons 1-4, but it still is 1/2 the show Simpsons was. Early Simpsons seasons are fu*kin hilarious and actually follow a storyline without having to revert to "remember that time when...." bullshite.
Even in it's prime Family Guy wasn't 1/2 as funny as The Simpsons in their prime.
Venture is already a better show than Family Guy overall (IMO), Family Guy was down right outrageous in the first run (seasons 1-3) but as of now they only get me to laugh at a few jokes every few episodes, blech.
As for no new Venture until 2008 I guess I'll just have to watch every episode like seventeen times then
