What's The HAPPIEST Song You Know?

Whether it's the words or the melody or the tempo or the orchestration or the voices or the instruments or what the song reminds you of, or a combination of some or all of these factors, there are some songs that just make you feel HAPPY!

One of those songs for me is Paul Simon's, "Late in the Evening." Its' tempo and energy are festive and exciting and fun to me. It's just one of those songs that makes me feel really happy and it's something I have no control over. It's just a great happy feeling song to me.

Here's a part of Simon's original recording of the song used as the basis and background for this guy's drum practice.

YouTube - Late in the Evening

What are yours and why?

Lately for me it's been Lemonade by Chris Rice:

Lemonade - Chris Rice
So go ahead and ask her
For happy ever after
‘Cause nobody knows what’s coming
So why not take a chance on loving
Come on, pour the glass and tempt me
Either half-full or half-empty
‘Cause if it all comes down to flavor
The glass is tipping in my favor

Life gave me lemonade and I can’t imagine why
Born on a sunny day, beneath a tangerine sky
I live life without pretending
I’m a sucker for happy endings
Thanks for the lemonade
Thanks for the lemonade!

Now take your time to answer me
For the beauty of romancing
Is to calm your trembling hand with mine
While begging love to fill your eyes
I can hardly breathe while waiting
To find out what your heart is saying
And as we’re swirling in this flavor
The world is tilting in our favor

[CHORUS]

I’ve got it made
Rest in the shade
And hold my love
While God above
Stirs wiith a spoon
We share the moon
Smile at the bees
More sugar please
He really loves us after all
We’re gonna need another straw!
We’re gonna need another straw!

[CHORUS]

Damn Abe, you got me spending a long time looking through my iTunes library. Good post.

I'd say the song that fits most of these criteria for me is Southern Cross by Crosby, Stills, and Nash. Great harmony, real narrative-based lyrics, sing-alongable, and an overall positive message. It's not a "Gee the world is great with rainbows and puppies" kinda song but I think it is positive and happy nonetheless.

Thanks, man. After I listened to your choice I then started a somewhat diligent browse for more songs that just make me happy when I hear them and there's nothing I can do about it.

Love Shack by the B-52's. The beat, the instrumentation, the words, the vocals the message and the energy is just happy to me. It makes me smile and I just can't help it.

I don't think I listen to "happy songs."

Lots of songs that make me incredibly happy, though.

...brighter than a lucky penny when you're near the rain cloud disappears, dear,
and I feel so fine just to know that you are mine....

The beat and the tune the energy and the vocal performance.

Yup, it's a smiler, alright!

Anybody looking for something a little bit more..... epic/soundtrack?

This is the finale to Ralph Vaughn William's masterpiece "Dona Nobis Pacem" featuring the London Symphony Chorus and the London Symphony Orchestra.

Not too long ago, I would've agreed. But then the institution that lobbies for safer traffic here in Iceland used the song in an ad regarding speed limits in school areas. The song now has a different meaning to me.

Click here to watch the ad - but beware, the song's meaning might change to you (no Icelandic knowledge needed).

As for the happiest song, I've always found Build me up buttercup by The Foundations to be a really good one. Especially after seeing Something About Mary.

I note with some amusement and also disappointment that a number of you see this as a competition. There is no winner or loser. If a song makes you happy then it makes you happy. It doesn't have to make anyone else happy. It COULD possibly make everyone else cry. But if it makes YOU happy, that is what counts. There are some instances where others DO share the same taste and find happiness with the songs we list, but that is a happy luckinstance or a lucky happenstance.

I intentionally held back on this one because I hoped someone else would list it. It really does make me smile. And it did so even before the film. It's a great song!

Tunak brought smiles, for sure. But in a strange distinction, it doesn't make me feel HAPPY.

How can something make you smile or laugh but not make you feel happy?

I was looking for another song that makes me feel happy whenever I hear it and I recalled this number from the film, "Singing in the Rain."

It's NOT the title tune, but one of the others (more than a few may also be included in this thread before all is said and done). This one is called, "Fit as a Fiddle (and Ready for Love.)"

Here is the actual musical soundtrack from the film of that song but doing the choreography are two unknowns (instead of Gene Kelly & Donald O'Connor) who worked REALLY hard to achieve this. It's damn near perfect and the original number is terribly difficult and marvelously impressive. These guys did a GREAT job!

Remember folks these should be songs that actually make you feel happy. Not just odd ball or kitschy performances or songs with the word "HAPPY" in them.

She may be one of the 10 most beautiful women I have ever seen in my life and her body looks to be perfect. And I mean PERFECT!

Hot. Cute. Beautiful. Sexy. Pretty. Talented. WOW!

Puts me in a GREAT mood!

But the song doesn't make me feel HAPPY.

And I'm not asking anyone to find a song to make anyone else feel happy. Just one that makes YOU feel happy.
