I have a powerbook g4 12" that says i have 659 mb when I know just 1 hr ago I had 1.56 gb. I was downloading somehing that was about a gig and not even 20% into the download my disk space was to about 256 mb? anyone know what the heck is going on? any help I will greatly appreciate it. Thanks

First of all, you really shouldn't have such a small amount of free space on your disk. That's just asking for trouble. OS X makes extensive use of virtual memory to improve performance. To clear that space, reboot. But you need to free more space on your disk.

Either reboot or quit all applications that are still open but that you don't explicitly need.

Yeeeeah. Don't download a GB worth of data when you only have 1.5 GB free. 1.5 GB itself is kind of straddling the line between safe and not-so-safe. Ideally, you'd probably want at least 2 GB free.

ueah thanks, I just erased all kinds of crap to clear up 2 gigs, My external just gave out on me a couple of days ago so that has me bummed.

If power supply is good you can put in a new hard drive in the external case

Yeah power supply works and I am most likely just going to use the same case, but I just have a lot of important files on my external that I want to have. its weird it makes sort of a skipping sound like its stuck or something. Any clues?
