How long before Blu-ray DVD drive comes with a PowerBook?

My Guess would be the 2008 production year we will see this drive show up in the PowerBook.

Backword compatabality for the regular DVD will be the speed bump for bringing out this feature.

blu-ray for ANYTHING doesn't exist yet. 2008 is probably a good guess.

Not for any computers (and that might even have changed by now), but there are standalone Blu-Ray player/recorders from at least 2 companies. Whether there's any commercially-available content is a whole 'nother issue. But I'm sure there will be when there are more players/drives.

As far as the original question, I'd go with WiskedJak's "after the successor is announced," too. But that announcement's still probably 1 - 1.5 years before said successor is available as a desktop drive, so it's not so woefully behind the curve.

The first commercial Blu-Ray burner was *just* announced at CeBit in Hannover last week.

It is about the size of a loaf of toast and should go into production in autumn for about 500.

Don't forget that there is no Blu-ray blank media yet (of course, there's no Blu-ray media, period, yet) and when blank media does debut, it will likely cost upwards of $50 per disc initially.
