This is an odd one, on my new intel iMac running 10.4.8 if I do a right click on something and go to open with it often listens some applications two or three times in a row, I have never seen this before on any of my PPC machines and don't really know how to fix it.

It's not really a big deal and either icon will open the proper app, but it is just kind of annoying.

Thanks!

open Terminal.app and copy/paste in this command and push enter, enter your admin password, push enter.

/System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/\
Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Support/lsregister \
-kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user

this resets the launchservices database, which is where the "open with" data is stored, among other things
Personally I find it hilarious that you have the hots for my gramma. Especially seeins how she is 3x your age, and makes your Brittney-Spears-wannabe 30-something wife look like a rag doll who went thru WWIII with a burning stick of dynamite up her a** :)

Yeah that is the LaunchServices database, it usually happens when you have an external drive connected with the apps on there as well. So if you do clones or backups to an external drive that's probably what is causing it.

bowwowman's method works but you can also use a maintenance application like Onyx (free - OnyX 1.7.5 - MacUpdate) or Cocktail/Mac Pilot etc if you want a GUI method.
