I'm trying to find the wallpapers from older versions of the Mac OS. The ones I can remember off the top of my head are rubberbands, rocks, and the Mac face. They were all tiled backgrounds. Are they located on my hard drive somewhere, like in the Classic system folder, or is there a website with them? Help please.
iBook G4: 800mhz, 640mb, 40gb ("Astrid")
iPod: 30gb Photo ("Gordon"), 1gb Shuffle ("Tinker Bell")

As I remember, the later OS 9 installations didn't come with it. If you have a 9.x or 8.x disk laying around, pop it in and look around the CD..

FYI classic's desktops are in /system folder/appearance/desktop pictures/

Actually, the "Mac OS background" is in there.. but not the 'oldschool' ones.

There is no "desktop pictures" folder in that location on my computer. I don't have a 8 or 9 disk. All I have are the disks that came with my iBook. I'm new to Mac (since October).

@Komisar: I had downloaded that once for that reason, but I don't have ShapeShifter or anything, so all that was downloaded was one file, which I guess was for use in ShapeShifter; there were no backgrounds.

Thanks for your replies.

Rhapsodized should download in a .dmg file, which the finder should open automatically. A removable disk should form called rhapsodized. In that disk there should be an extras folder which has all of the desktop pictures.

try looking in the cd extras folder of an old install desk.

pebbles and rubber bands are desktop patterns for the old appearance control panel.
i do not think you can get to them otherwise. (could be wrong about that getting to them part).

On the CD Extras folder is one called extra desktop patterns, which does have all those funky patterns like rubber bands and whatnot. I sent that, and a link to a page I put on my server with all the desktop backgrounds

OS 9 wallpaper is here: http://www.talesmud.com/os9dp/os9dp.html

that's awesome, but don't suppose you'd host them as a compressed file / single archive?

I've uploaded the "Sample Desktop Pictures" folder from OS 8.1 here. There's a nice Mac OS smiley face desktop in there.
