If that's missing the point, I can only assume the point is to have more than one dock

Has anyone tried running strings on it to see if the links are hardcoded in? You could hack them with a hex editor if they are (this does work, my brother tried it on the open command).

Quicksilver. My dock only contains trash + open apps.

As for quicksilver launching more than just one app... uhh... the whole point is that it launches any of the apps you have. Anything in your application folder is loaded into the catalog by default. If you want more in the dock, I know there are virtual dock programs... not sure of the price of any of them. One of them, I think, even comes with another quickdock type thing.

I also don't see why you don't put aliases on the desktop. Same overall effect. If you want, mod your desktop picture to contain a bezel for them. That second click really isn't THAT hard. And certainly, one click is much harder than QuickSilver. If the italic text bothers you, just make a script that launches the app. Easy as pie. Piece of cake.

i had thought someone would 'sneak' into an apple store and run the Activity Monitor utility and figure out what the app was called and report back with more information.

i had thought the excitement would build, not fizzle.

(i geuss if it were vaporware and not an actual app, this thread would be 10x as long).

I would do it if there was an apple store here in Redneckville Kentucky... closest one is about 2 hours away.

I saw this too and was wondering how they did. I immediately went to the activity monitor and saw nothing out of the ordinary. Looked in the apps folder and nothing odd again.

Hi there. Just a quick response, I noticed some of the people complaining about Quicksilver don't know that you can actually type the name of the application in order to launch it after you press 'CTRL + SPACE'. Hope this helps.

You mean there are actually people who download it, install it, run it, and then don't know what to do with it, come here and complain, and yet never read the docs?? Amazing ...
I gotta say, this is an app for the power user - it's kinda like an eye-candy version of the good old Terminal

Yea, the apple store in san francisco had this 'dock on the desktop'. It's just an application that they built internally...

I found the app when I was there, but when I looked through it's internals, it didn't look like it could be customized much. Anyway, you could archive it and FTP it to yourself if you're really interested.

these were my thoughts as well (as little as i know) course, i have a 4 button Kensington trackball from the baige mac era. but with 2 little control panels i get full control of all four buttons meaning that my upper right button is a double click button. one click equals two!

i was excited when i got all 4 buttins to be seen by the Kensington cpanel even though its a serial mouse run through an iMate serial to USB converter.

For those who wish to download the app, I modified the original link so that it now works (although it seems to download everything in the public folder):

I thought I was the only one. I also have all background processes dock-enabled (with TransparentDock), - found some cool icons for common back processes like SystemUIServer, Universal Access, Security Agent, System Events, etc. - and I've got a sharp-looking little Activity Monitor formerly known as my dock.

It's called DesktopButtons , I have it on my mac. The thing is you can't do anything with it, it puts itself in the centre of your desktop with the 4 default icons and that's it. There are Genius Bar, Classes & Events, Product Info and Contact Me-buttons.

Genius Bar: https://genius.apple.com/kiosk/?store=R002
Classes & Events: opens iCal
Product info: http://www.apple.com/tellmemore/
Contact Me: http://apple.webassociates.com/request/?sid=R002

The program is about 452 KB in size.

Edit:
darrick posted a link with screenshots of DesktopButtons. I overlooked it

I've posted this before.. but why not try your dock like this then:
http://www.imben.net/macnn/docksetup.jpg

i do that, set it in left corner of the screen with transparent dock and it's never a problem.
