Maybe all Rage Pro users should converge on the Apple campus at some planned date chanting "Hell no, we want Rage Pro, Hell no, we want Rage Pro" And Q3 certainly does work on an iMac 333 (640x480, vertex lighting), it's one of my favorite games besides UT. Of course, Q3 team arena is unplayable...*sigh*, I remember when 6MB was a lot of VRAM...can't wait to see the Cube's replacement, then Apple will get my money again and the old iMac becomes a Linux box.

an ibook run (mirrored) in clamshell mode IF you have a monitor hooked up, have a usb keyboard and a mouse... i dont think it will just run with a mouse. i now know that this is a lie without the spanning hack

as far as options go- try nosleep

http://ftp.schempp.ch/schempp.ch/www/macosx/nosleep/

get the most recent one... this is a hack that prevts the ibook from sleeping when the lid is closed. i had luck with this on 10.2.6 but none with either 10.2.8 or panther 7B85.

you can set the screens to not be mirrored but it is kinda a scray thing to do (have to tweak the openfirmware), and i think with the origional ibooks (8mb vram and a 67 mhz bus) this will renbder your ibook dead.

http://www.resexcellence.com/htdocs...ite//2500.shtml

i have a 700/combo/14"/16mb vram that this worked wonderfully on.

see what that does fo you.

i can run all kindsa resolutions besides just 1024, as that is more of a function of the lcd than the video card.

hope this helped
damn, that was only a year and a couple of days ago. hmm, happy 'NNBirthday to me i guess.

Here it is . . . Well, as far as the archive is concerned.
4 Sep 01.
It was about cars and gas mileage and I was bragging about
the awesome mileage I was getting from my then-new Honda
Insight. Now it's quite used and owned by my ex-wife.

I was a member for two years before that although I generally
lurked in the hardware forums. It wasn't until 2000 that I
discovered this wasteland.

Here it is, dated 04-16-1990.

I remember that. There was some problem with the server or something.

Here's my actual first post (I think) dated 03-18-2001. It's just a stupid comment with a screenshot I posted which I thought was funny at the time. I thought I was so cool for modifying the build number from the plist file buried in OS X so I could grab a shot of it.

Posts prior to 6/2001 are all by "Guests" because of something that happened during an upgrade. So you have to manually search to find 'em.

On 06-28-2003 09:53 AM PST, soul searching's first post. Apple, BSD, Mac OS X, Linus, Linux and Slashdot all in my first post.

On 09-01-2004 08:25 PM PST, E's Lil Theorem's first post. Something about popcorn with butter here. Also the last thread in which I posted under soul.

I am in the process of upgrading my RAM on an original iMac DV/SE and was wondering if i can use a 512MB PC100 DIMM? I have heard conflicting stories about the maximum amount of RAM per slot. Apple's site says 256 per slot, but i heard that the motherboard can support 512 per slot. Can anybody clear this up for me?
Thanks-

Assuming you don't want to read the whole thread, I just found it humerous as it was a discussion of how bad the AIM client for Mac OS X(beta at the time I believe?) was at that time. Oh wait, it hasn't gotten any better. The best part, while not my first post was the:

Here's hoping to iMessenger.app
I guess iChat rolls off the tongue a little better...

Mine is here (06-04-2001). I was justifying the extra $300 over the CD model for the ability for my iBook/500 to read DVDs. I had three Macs before that one, however (Beige G3 desktop, PowerComputing 120, and a PowerBook Duo 230)...I wonder why I never chatted before then.

I think this is the first one I can find.

99% of the time I spent in here was in the software forum talking about themes before themeing forum was started.

This was my first post under the Zimphire nick.

Wow, that brings back a lot of memories. I checked on my first post on my first username in 01.

I've never eclipsed that number of posts on a username though: 632. Its weird because I never planned to stop any of my usernames at that number..

Honestly, I'm making a new topic probably as a waste, but, you must think about this:

The G3 blue and white, and imac were released at around the same time.

And if the G5 is updated, the imacs will too, who's going to buy a G3 imac when a G5 is out?
It's like watching a train crash in slow motion.

My first post was referring somebody to pbparts.com, this is my second:
I just got a iBook 500MHz/256MB/DVD/10GB for cheap. I'm going to need more space for music/movies, so i was looking into a 40GB drive. I've been scoping the new Toshiba MK4019GAX on their webpage, but I don't think it's out yet.

Anyone have ideas on a good brand of HD for the iBook? Anything specific I should look for in the drive (besides the size)?

Please include installation horror stories too.

I will be ordering my PowerBook in a few weeks and it will be my main computer. How do i make it run dual monitors such as some of you guys use? A short (or long) instructional reply would be beneficial
Wow! I was such a rookie. I'm glad that my posts have progressed to short useless quips which usually do not pertain to the topic.

Heheh. Great thread. I've been here 3 years, as of next week.

Eug:
Hello. I have some experience with this, but on the PC side.

On a PC, an RPC-2 drive will usually allow 5 changes and then it locks into the last one. Your DVD software can have this feature deactivated, but this is irrelevant. The drive itself does "remember" each change. To get around this people develop firmware hacks of to trash this function within the firmware. I have such a hacked firmware running on my Toshiba DVD-ROM in my Windows 2000 laptop. In other words DON'T ASSUME THAT JUST A SOFTWARE HACK WILL SOLVE YOUR DVD REGION PROBLEMS. YOU'RE LIABLE TO LOCK YOURSELF TO INTO REGION 3 OR SOMETHING!

I am thinking of getting a recent iBook to replace my PC laptop. (The 15" screen is nice but too big.) However, one of my concerns is region free status. Are there any known firmware hacks of the DVD-ROM, or the CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive?

Furthermore, does anyone know the brand and model numbers of those drives? I'd be surprised if they're Apple branded, but who knows.

Also, what flash utilities are used on an OS X machine? I don't really want to install OS 9 if I don't have to.
Eug Wanker:
I wonder if they'll release the Finding Nemo trailer in full Pixlet.

That would be an awesome demo for the technology if we could see it ourselves on our own PowerBooks.

Nope, just Sine.

I started posting here because I was making a theme for OS X during the pre-Public beta days. I was posting in a forum call "MacMonkey"

Someone from here came over there and informed me of themeing work going on over here. At the time I had already made a theme called "Simple Aqua" (It's what Smooth Stripes looks like now) and was working on a theme called Sosumi.

it was actually the first fully complete "original" OS X theme out.

It was done in the Public Beta days.

I have since quit themeing because of all the bratty ungrateful hacks out there.

Pffft, OS 9. Those were the days.

My first post was something to do with Myth 2. I think about it working on OS X natively. It's since been done. It's weird, I don't even remember what made me come to this place or how I even found it. Man, it's been a long time.

Trying to partition the HD and install OS X on an UFS partition was pretty much not possible. Only after reading a whole lot of threads I found out that this is NOT a god idea (although, SOME say UFS would run even faster than HFS+ - I'm a little confused)

What bothers me a little bit is that the modem takes quite some time to connect (15 secs). That just feels slow...

Haven't yet installed Classic Apps to check compatibility.
