1. Pink Floyd (1994)
2. AC/DC
3. Tom Jones (don't laugh; his show had more energy and enthusiasm than acts a 1/3 his age)

wow. i cant even imagine. saw the cure in 91 or 92 on the wish tour and it was really good.

these are just the first that come to my mind...

1. Shellac (kalamazoo, MI 1993?) first show outside of chicago, hell, one of their first shows PERIOD. amazing show, and i was absolutely as into them as i could have been at the time.

2. Avail (grand rapids, MI 1994) right before dixie came out. absolutely kicked ass. so much energy.

3. Rachel's (Ann Arbor, MI 2004/5) played in a really nice space (interesting in terms of acoustics, they had a nice piano at their disposal, not a grimy bar) in the art museum on the University of Michigan's campus.

The three that stick with me are:

Three Dog Night-early 1980s in (I swear) Biloxi, Miss.
Van Halen-1983(?) Austin, TX
Bob Seger-1984(?) Austin, TX

The Three Dog Night concert had some hardcore fans in the open seating (really standing) auditorium, and they were great.

Van Halen, at the top of their form with David Lee Roth were great, with the possible exception of the extreme volume at the stage right upper level seating in the Erwin Center. I enjoyed the music fine, with my fingers in my ears the whole time!

Bob Seger was THE best. We sat right next to the sound board on the floor, and EVERYBODY was dancing, including the board operator. The opening act-who's name I just do not remember-sucked like deep space, but Bob more than made up for it.

We also went to see The Eurythmics at Austin's City Colluseum in '85 or '86, but we had to leave early. There were just so many people smoking weed in there that we couldn't breathe! It was horrible, and I'm very angry that nobody did anything about it. The place was "No Smoking" and the smokers weren't even trying to be discrete about it. I hate them.

Our trip to "see" Bette Middler in Austin sounded great, but we got nosebleed seats so while we heard a great show, all we saw were little pink blobs moving around on the stage.

I used to go to lots of concerts about 15 years ago, but the best have all been rather recent.

1. The Finn Brothers - Central Park, NY, NY - July 30, 2004 (pure magic... they even played a request for me)
2. Prince - MCI Center, Washington, DC - August 12, 2004 (third time I've seen him)
3 (tie). Neil Finn - Park West, Chicago, IL - July 14, 2002 (first time seeing and meeting Neil)
3 (tie). The Finn Brothers - Birchmere, Washington, DC - February 28, 2005 (The Finns were excellent as usual, but Bic Runga was the best supporting act I've ever seen)

1. Michael Jackson(Dangerous Tour)
2. James Brown(Summer 2004)
3. Cypress Hill(Temple of Boom Tour) / Rammstein (Mutter Tour)

Can't decide between nr. 3.

I've seen the Cure a number of times since '81, just about every tour. The '89 Disintegration tour was I think the next best.

Great moment from the '81 show - during a quiet moment between songs someone yells out "play something fast..." - which gets the response from (not yet fat) Bob - "this one's called the Funeral Party..."

Durring the Supertone's show some moronic crowd surfer was crowd surfing and then ended up just sitting on my shoulders. I looked up at him, he was behaving like an idiot, so I sacked him with the back of my head

2002ish. I love their stuff but wasn't alive back when they were releasing (good) albums.

Just to make it clear: my above concerts were not in any special order.

I certainly would never admit in a public forum to attending a Hanson show, let alone put it in my top three...unreal.

One I forgot:

Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Cobo Hall - Detroit - June 1, 1977 (I think)....with full orchestra...frickin' loud but killer sound!

1. AC/DC (front row = loud)
2. Guns n Roses (VIP pass = free booze ).
3. The Angels (an Aussie band I've seen many times).

Prince would have been #3 if it weren't for the ordinary seats.

U2- Constitution Hall, Washington, DC, 1985
Saw them just before The Unforgettable Fire was released. Mid sized venue, the energy was great.

R.E.M.- Felt Forum, New York City, 1986
Life's Rich Pageant Tour, mid-sized club, crazy fun good time.

Van Halen - RFK Stadium, 1984
1984 Tour, or, in other words, last tour before the started completely sucking, in other words, the last tour with David Lee Roth.

Of course, ask me again tomorrow, and there will be different answers.

In no particular order.

David Gray - MSG (NYC, NY) - 30 Jan 2003

Pink Martini - 9:30 Club (Wash, DC) - 27 Jun 05
They were brought back for two encores and the audience still refused to leave. The late show was delayed because the fans didn't want them to leave the stage.

David Sanborn - SPAC (Saratoga Springs, NY) - Summer 1985/86 (?)

Gypsy Kings - Wolf Trap (Vienna, VA) - Summer 1997, 2000

The Police - Carrier Dome (Syracuse, NY) - 1985
One of my first rock concerts--I was 15--and they totally rocked. This was the Synchronicity tour when they were at the height of their fame/popularity.

Yes - SPAC (Saratoga Springs, NY) - Summer 1986/87 (?)
This was the 90210 tour and they totally rocked. I got into some of their old stuff, and the eventualy spin-off group Asia, after seeing this show.
One should never stop striving for clarity of thought and precision of expression.
I would prefer my humanity sullied with the tarnish of science rather than the gloss of religion.

rachel's live is well worth it, hell, theyre well worth a decent drive if you had to. i've seen them twice, once at the magic stick in detroit (during the tour supporting the "music for egon schiele" record), and the other time was the show i mentioned above.

When I was a kifd in the seventies, there was only one large venue for concerts in Boston and the surrounding areas, the Boston Garden. Thus the Garden had concerts at least one a week. My friends and I would get in by various means. Climbing the drainpipes to the roof(about four stories), getting past the security doors and hiding in the stalls of the womens bathrooms, since women didn't work much at the Garden back then, you knew that when the first woman opened your stall that the doors were open and you could walk into the show.

We saw about every significant act to play there (No Stones though). Pink Floyd, The Who, Fleetwood Mac, Aerosmith and Queen four times each, Yes, Alice Cooper, David Bowie, The Cars, Edgar Winter, Frampton(was anyone bigger in 77?),

The best was probably Pink Floyd. Unbelievable show. Alice Coooper and Kiss had there own great shows as well.

1) Metallica/Guns n Roses - Mile High Stadium 1992. Ditched school that day to get in line for tickets. We managed 4th row, wooot!

2) Pennywise - San Diego 2001. Nearly started a riot because the floor was half empty while the gen admin seats were all full. Yes, we made it to the floor.

3) Megadeth/Incubus - SD 2002. Awesome show from the front row. When MD took the stage, Dave Mustaine walked out and stood right in front of me, I was like, OMG! Incubus kicks much ass too.
