Like most Arnott's biscuits its just a direct copy of a pre existing McVitie's biscuit.
During the second world war supplies from the UK to Australia dried up, at that point local copies of UK products were introduced and flourished in Australia:
Marmite - was copied and called Parwill then renamed Vegemite
Bisto - copied and called Gravox
Penguins - copied and called tim tams (this is the most well known example of over over 42 direct Mcvities to Arnots biscuit thefts.
The most annoying thing about Tim Tams is that they are much nicer than Penguins.
I will get over this eventually.
