Makes no practical sense to forbid any equipment to use the FM band at all. There should be limitations, but this sounds a bit nonsense to me. We have some strict laws here in my country, but it hasn't stopped iTrip from what I know.

Yes, crazy ass nuts.
Does DAB transmit using the FM and MW bandwidths? If so, this could be the problem government types still have a problem with 'the public' using these transmitters.
I would hope that once analogue signals are 'switched off' in a few years that they will open up the analogue airwaves for the public to use. I never quite got bigbrothers problem with pirate radio. It's the fear that knowledge can be transmitted by someone who is not on their payroll...

If the transmission range is short enough, how will the know you're using it?

FM broadcasters such as the iTrip are illegal throughout Europe - that's why you can only order from the U.S. if you want one (technically Griffen shouldn't sell them to people abroad).
The law has been like this for a long time - they haven't been banned, they were never legal in the first place

Where would you go?
I'm pretty sure most European nations have similar legislature. The iTrip never even went on sale in Germany AFAIK, as it would definitely be illegal.

They don't. That's why I am not all that worried about mine
It is a pain nonetheless. A friend of mine got contacted by the authorities after, innocently, selling a transmitter on ebay UK. He got off with a warning.

I would love to live in Canada...
Or if I had to settle for closer to home, Italy, where my family are from.
The UK is just a hateful place to live.

Nope, AFAIK you can't transmit FM yourself anywhere in Europe.

Subject: Re: iTrip available in Europe?
You can buy it off our web site...

Do you know the status for the rest of Europe? Can I buy one in Norway
and is there any resellers here?
Thanks. Mr. Hasselberg.
Case closed.
